I like when that random bit of math comes in handy. I’ve used the Pythagorean theorem a few times in my builds.

In school I hated the Higher math because I could care less about the stupid problems.

I had a teacher find me real world mechanical problems That I loved to solve .

I went from failing to close to the top of the class I doubt many teachers today would do that.

When people say math is dumb, I haven’t used it once since I left school, I always think, doesn’t that make you dumb? Haha

You never used any math since high school ?

Does that mean you always work off prints someone else has drawn up?

Never had to make any load bearing calculations

Just not ever using fractions would make life easier.

I use it for weight calculations a lot and structural problem solving every day, not to mention for every single other aspect of life haha.

If I chose to never use my arms it wouldn't make holding a glass of water difficult, it would make me lazy. The same goes for our brains :D

Haha no worries. I use it non-stop and am curious how anyone gets through a day without was my point. You’d have to deliberately not in my mind ha.

Cheers folks. Back to designing my first gooseneck trailer. I’ve designed bumper pullers a plenty but I’m making sure this gooseneck is correct (with others, so it’s not all on me if it isn’t haha). Any tips welcome :)

My wife and I were both math majors in school. We can do differential equations, multi-variable calculus and a number of complex calculations.

I'm a card carrying electrician and commission/operate a number of critical facilities (i.e. data centers and industrial/process systems).

Most of the principles and theorems that I learned in school were absolutely useless. An understanding of trigonometry and algebra is really all I needed to be successful. A basic mathematical understanding is almost essential in the construction, fabrication and operation fields.

I still struggle with math... I have gotten better with the stuff I need to do everyday and I can generally find a way to do what I need, it just may not be the fastest and shortest way of getting the answer

I suck at math, but can convert imperial measurements and metric units pretty accurate in my head.

Started in high school. My car measured oil pressure in "bars". Constantly had to tell the buds it wasn't a 3 "bar" night.

I need a TIG welder for a project. Needs to be AC/DC so I can weld aluminum. Considering either the Harbor Freight Vulcan ProTIG 205 or the Everlast 185DV.

Leaning toward the Everlast because it’s cheaper with the same features, higher duty cycle and a much longer warranty (not that the warranty means much).

    Anyone have recommendations?

I would lean HF only because an extended warranty can be purchased and if anything goes wrong you just walk out with a new welder. I don’t know how everlast handles warranty issues but I wonder if they repair versus replace. Plus consumables can be purchased in a brick and mortar store but again, I don’t know if that’s possible with everlast.

Fair point. The Vulcan is $400 more before adding the extended warranty. The Everlast comes with a 5yr warranty. Ease of return is important though.
