I'm barely getting FedEx and UPS to come out (new house/new development).

Definitely happy I went with the 126CF.

At work we've got several +300CF tanks and maybe one 225-250CF tank; they're huge and heavy.

i got lucky and scored an old 230 that came with the welder I bought. Was afraid I would have issues getting it filled/swapped but my local place did it no problem. She’s a big bitch though.

In my younger Days around 40 I would throw the 330 cu ft cylinder on my shoulder and carry it out of the building a few years ago I built a few hand trucks just for moving cylinders . When you move feeders as often as I tend to it is nice to have cylinders easy to move and secure .

Then my cost to get the cylinders filled was only a tad more then the 125 cu ft a few years ago.

Welding on a part time basis I can get an easy 3 years but then how does one figure part time arc time.

I’m still just rocking flux-core. Maybe I’ll justify the cost of a tank one day but, I’m also not welding that much right now.

As long as the Self shield wire gets the job done!

Cylinders are like grinders you can`t just have one!!

You run that electrode Negative without gas?

We run it positive with gas here but I want
to try it without gas as well sometime.

Self Shielded ( should be) run Straight Polarity just like DC Tig .

    Correct electrode negative !

Not to be confused with Gas Shielded Flux core that us old folks remember as dual shield wire marketed under Airco many years ago. Electrode Positive.

My wife is going to loveeee that :rofl:another thing to collect. We’ll see, I’m actually pretty happy with the self shielded for convenience.

Yes, negative DC electrode. It’s been really handy and portable without a tank.

unless it is under 1/8" I can just as fast drag out the cables and stick weld unless it is a major job.

I had bad luck with self shielded wire when it first came out way back when So it turned me off.

They tell me 40 years later it has improved it seems to be the go to for many outages these days

I’ve heard it wasn’t that great at first, but apparently it’s improved quite a bit since then. I haven’t had any problems thus far.

I’d like to branch out eventually and get a stick and tig, but tanks for the mig seem like the next logical step.

Flux has its place, wind, fixing a fence on the back 40, dirty material, but once you use gas, you’ll wonder why you didn’t switch sooner. I do carry a spool of flux just in case I run out of gas on a project.

Flux penetrates better, more consistently, if you know what you're doing :burp:

Ha, well I do agree with you there, I learned to weld, self taught, with a flux machine. But, I think of certain things, welding with flux one of them, like an ex-girlfriend, you think you miss them and you remember all the good times, but then you hook back up with them and you immediately realize why you left:cheers:

Only cause I got some positive comments, figured I'd share here.

    Little 'Infinity Table' project.

Here it is once I welded it. Really, I blew through welding it super quick and didn't care that I did get a little distortion. Mainly because I thought I'd just give it away.

    20220419_104235.jpg

Well, that was easily remedied by making equal length spacers and welding one end together, making it much more square.

    20220420_101957.jpg

The idea came to mind to make it a table, focusing on the end with the spacers the 'top' portion as to hide them.

    20220507_125413.jpg

Can't go wrong with black, but to make it go together, I needed something 'bold' the wood.

    20220507_141020.jpg

    20220507_150433.jpg

It's not done yet as I need to give the wood top a sanding. Also need to drill and weld some pieces of angle iron to mount the wood on.

Other than that, doesn't look too bad!

    Ha thanks!

Next one I make will be done over a few days as to prevent anything coming out of square.

This was a "week long" project, that I did all in one day

Thinking I'll TIG weld the next one as well.

Which welder are you using? Is it one of the flux core specific welders or is it a gas mig welder that you're running flux wire through? Sometimes you'll have to switch the polarity to run flux on the welders setup for mig with shielding gas and some of them will switch themselves if you set it for flux wire

I have the titanium easyflux 125 and once you get the hang of it, getting the settings right is much easier
