I will say, spray arc is crazy fun to run.

Who knew welding could be so quiet, with the exception of TIG on steel.

I've only been doing it for the last 2 weeks give or take cause I thought I was going to take a welding test with a potential employer.

Sucks when it’s an easy joint and you do one really good weld and the second one the welder acts up.. I get these intermittent times on welds when it’ll jus pop and create tons of splatter. Not sure if it’s a dirty joint or what.. Does the wire feed change??

Looks like the output increased this time of year the input power can due to demand fluctuate quite a lot.

    It even effects my microwave.

Exactly 97.3% of "intermittent popping" issues can be solved with adjustments to technique, specifically travel speed (either speed across the joint, speed of your pattern, or both) or with an adjustment to CTWD (Contact Tip to Work Distance, or Electrical Stickout).

From what I see, your pattern is spaced out too far laterally which tells me you are running at the bleeding edge of travel speed, so even a slight increase in pattern or travel speed outruns the arc and causes popping, which is easy to do with short circuit GMAW.

Slow down on your travel speed, both overall and the speed of your pattern, and I am willing to bet your issues resolve.

    Thats fair.

Lots of stainless tests in industry are run on Carbon steel parent materials so save testing costs. Just wondering if there was a reasoning behind the mismatch, but hey, I also support "just because". Just because is one of the best ways to learn!

feels like a feeding issue. I’ve talked to my local air gas and they say it could need a new gun and cable but that’s some serious money and it rarely does it.

Could be dirty wire. Spool is pretty old.
Millermatic 215. I don’t use the auto set though. Can’t stand it and seems to always pop on auto set.

wire feed is constant. I turn off the auto set. I can’t stand it and feel the wire speed is to fast.

power is coming from a 40 amp diesel generator (house is off grid so only solar, batteries and generator for power) so power is constant and the same.

Thanks I’ll try slow down some. I’m betting it was dirty material though. That was the first weld on the bracket and after that one it welded fine with no issues and lauded down beads I’m used to seeing without any issue.

Man, that 215 is money! I use one from time to time.

Yep that’s been my guess for a while now after talking to air gas. Maybe I’ll rider it and change it when I finish this spool. It’s so intermittent and only does it every couple times I use the welder it’s hard to dive into.

the 215 has been good to me. If I got another, probably grab a big 250/252 or even the new 220 even though I have a Miller dynasty for tig (that I don’t know how to use)

Funny you say that; my own instructors told me to stay away from the 255 Multimatics we have (6-7 of them?).

I wish I had 3 phase at my house, that's what I'd run if I could.

No 3 phase either. My dad has a 252 I think and I feel it just wells so much better. But he also has a 215 and seems to use that 8/10 times over the 252 for the smaller and lighter gun

It's basically exactly what you said. I'm new to tig welding and have been struggling with stainless so I'm trying to familiarize myself with the filler a bit more before rebuilding my exhaust out of stainless. The material is super expensive to practice on so I'm just trying out what I can whenever I get the chance.
