How much to be able to mount one to the head rail on a 3rd gen? You know the two holes that are threaded there lol

Yeah so this is for a 3rd Gen.

I need to verify this coming weekend if the slots I made are wide enough for his bolt/t-nut setup.

If you want one and can wait a week I'll get you the plate and a gusset for cost of material which ain't much.

You'd just have to provide your own square tube but I may be interested in cutting out a tire mount plate as well. Those holes will need to be much more precise however.

Oh, just send me the distance of those holes from center to center and the diameter (outside diameter).

I think his setup is different because he has a rail setup?

I would advise against this project- or at least @Longbed3rdgen can take this as advice and do as he pleases. The bedrail tire mounts spread the load of the tire bouncing around (even on paved roads), and have been known to cause damage to the composite bed of some trucks. With the tire mounted to just those two bolts so close together, your risk of damage will be even greater. At the very least, I’d advise to buy the rail and attach the tire mount there.

Just my opinion based on experience.

Yeah I had this same thought earlier regarding the composite bed thing. Two other members had also advised against it but apparently using the rail you mentioned, and spreading it across a larger plate like the one I made is a bit "better".

Then again, I don't own either 2nd or 3rd Gen so thanks for chiming in. I don't wanna do something for someone if it's gonna break their shit.

I mean as long as he knows this before-hand and still wants it- go nuts! It may never cause any damage and could be fine, but I’d rather err on the side of caution.

You've played with and installed stuff on more trucks than I ever have!

I can't even give an opinion on the one I'm making until this Sunday when I weld it up and install it.

All I know is my tire holder will be strong :muscleflexing:

Need to see how the bed rail holds this thing though.

I can only say no way would I want to mount a full size spare or even bigger tire to a bed side on the composite bed.

I explored many options before just using a ratchet strap to the headache rack on the right side.

Err on the side of caution!

Thanks for the feedback. I may have found my back pressure issue. That water trap/regulator combo. I thought that regulator was opened all the way up, but it was just so stiff it may have been restricting my flow. The needle bounces so bad on it I didn't notice it was still below tank pressure.

Where in the flow to place the components like a refrigerated unit is definitely a hot topic on Langmuir site. Some say before tank as you said "out and done", while others say the tank is designed to remove water and that the refrigerated dryers are more effective after the temp is lowered so they are doing the finesse not the grunt work. Seems both camps have some good points.

I was planning on buying the rail and bending up some braces or welding some up to tie it into the side rails. I was worried about that exact issue but I feel that bracing it SHOULD eliminate that issue

I’ve got some 1/8” 2x square tube. I would appreciate the tire plate too. PM me projected cost if you don’t mind

You guys know how I always get hooked up at my metal supplier?

Went in to buy 2 sheets of 14 gauge at 4' x 4'

Paid for 2 sheets of 14 gauge at 4' x 4' with a discount cause price of scrap metal is roughly $1.40/lb. If you figure out 8' x 4' of 14 gauge it's about 100lbs.

So my metal NEW is costing me less than USED.

    20230130_152101.jpg

This is how fat I get hooked up every time.

    2 sheets of 4' x 4', as well as 2 sheets of 12 gauge of 12" x 12"

    Except...the large 4' x 4' are actually 10 gauge

Fuck they were heavy to bring in

I did actually have a gift card to give the guy that always gives me steel though as I wanted him to know I always appreciate it.

The guy inside as well (when you pay) specifically said they rather deal with people like me. The guys with larger companies buying multiple large pieces turn out to be a pain sometimes over the dumbest stuff.

Me, I'm just a dude trying to do side work at home:rofl:

You need to remember the bigger companies most times have the clueless Purchasing Agent buying materials.

I am sure most of us have interesting stories.

Buying by price not quality and rating 15000 rpm consumables are very different then 1000 rpm

Practicing with a new (to me) type of filler called Super Missle Rod that a friend recommended. I'll be using it to weld some gussets onto some forged spindles. He uses the same thing at the race shop he works at on all their drift spindles. Not the greatest welds in the world but im liking the filler so far.

Do you have any idea who is selling this new rod? (I see it is a Harris 312 Stainless Rod.) More like a keep up with the neighbors thing a hard push by sales people.

    All position ?

Over the years all sorts of companies promote there new filler as the best for your application .
