Well I pulled the trigger and just bought my welder. I got a Lincoln Power Mig 180C. Got a pretty good deal on it, considering the average price was around $1000. Now I will be able to get my bumper welded together!! I like this one better than the basic Power Mig 180. The 180C has a cast aluminum feeding spool assembly instead of the cheaper plastic ones on the standard 180.

Nice, 180c will probably be my next purchase.

I made these last week using a neighbor's Lincoln MIG. About half the welds look great and the other half is fugly. But I got the "pool" of metal going so I know they're strong...just fugly! If anyone in So Cal has a small MIG welder they'd like to trade, I have a set of custom rims (16x8 with 4.5" bs) that I'll trade straight up, paid $600 new....:D

I did some similar to that but made them so that they work with the sliders

Nice weldes, and 1 or 1 1/4 16 maybe 14 gauge. It's just for snow boards so I can put all my gear underneath and my board doesn flop about in the bed.

jev, nice welds. i used 1" sq tube, 1/8" thick metal. it's just for holding a cargo basket for camping so not a lot of weight.

phil, i like the idea, keeps everything nice and tucked away!

Thanks, I did it to keep them low but out of the way so I could still use the bed. Plus they lock and I put locks on the rails so you cant remove and steel my shit if I go into a store er bar for a bit after boarding.

    Gotchya!

Yeah, wasn't sure how much weight you were going to load that down with - was going to suggest adding some gussets in there. Think you'll be fine.

Isn't it cool to make your own junk?

Well they screwed up on my order claiming that the special price was incorrect, and that my sales tax was incorrect, so I canceled the order and went with my next suggestion from Eric at Relentless fab. I bought the welder that HE is planning to buy. The Thermal Arc 211i. It is a MIG/TIG/Arc welder machine. Set me back just under $1100.

My bad. I misread your post before. I thought you were GOING to get the 211i. Well good luck on the 252i! I am looking forward to this new one. Of course SOMEONE said they would include some sample scrap pieces of the plate bumper for me to practice on when I ordered my DIY kit....Wonder who that was?

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-Lotos-...916?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ece64cbec

Its a sweet machine plus the 1 year warr. on the unit.. I have had mine since july last year and beat it to hell cutting metal..

The reviews from other sites pulled me to it.. Run it on 240 not 110 if possible.

    :eek::eek:

Thats cheap! I've been kinda saving up for a welder and I know I won't be happy to just have a mig. Did that 1100 include the torch and pedal?

Hell yeah, think I got my parents convinced on doing some steel shelving, like these that I did awhile back.

If you dont get the tig just stay home :)

Im so torn on what to get with my taxes. On one hand I just want a mig welder, bender and notcher so I can start building sliders and bed racks but on the other hand I want an ac/dc tig so I can keep up on my tig skills on both steet and aluminum
