I haven't had any cutting time for a little over a month. I got a chance to cut two 18 gauge signs this afternoon. Both will have 22 gauge backplates and wall brackets. Hope to get the garage heated tomorrow afternoon and get started painting them.

The Bears one is for my sister to give husband for Christmas.

The other was a request for me to design a tribute a friend could give her Dad for Christmas. He is a Navy vet and a retired State policeman. She also wanted marriage and family represented. It's supposed to look like what cops call the "potato badge" and then the Navy anchor. I think it'll look good when painted. I have a 4 color paint scheme planned.

we don't at work. i think the main reason is that any surge has the possibility to effect the vehicle computers or sensors the most, which just a single unit can easily cost significantly more than one battery!

When I have time, I'm going to make up a copper zig-zag with some drain valves in the valleys to mount on the wall in front of the desiccant.

3/4" thin wall PVC pipe fits the OD of where the filter cartridge normally sits in those Hayward housings. It's really just as simple as getting the pipe length correct so it seals when you screw it shut.

I think I know what you mean, but I think others would like more description about the 3/4" PVC pipe part.

The pipe seals against the top and the bottom when you cut it to the correct length. Drill some very small holes in the bottom ~2 inches. I also filled my piece of pipe with a stainless steel scrubby. Put the pipe in the housing. Fill it with desiccant, center the lid and screw it on.

Even though I ran multiple signs and whatnot on the new torch, I figured it was finally time to 'dial it in'

Decided to work on 16 gauge and 10 gauge for a bit; I'll need to add a few 12 gauge profiles not to mention do the test cutting for 3/16" and 1/4"

I have most of my settings documented for when I used my PTM-60 torch however, I found out instantly on the first thing I cut that these settings won't work on the UPM-105

    Screenshot 2023-12-01 212518.png

Three test cuts, each at varying amperage (2 amp increments above and below recommended) not to mention three cut speeds per amp setting (10 ipm increments above and below recommended)

On average, my speeds were about 20ipm slower but also required less current compared to the older torch

For those wondering why there are some test cuts missing in the 16 gauge section, it's because the cut quality was so far off that I disregarded further testing in that speed and/or amp setting

All right off the table, no clean up

    Best piece on 10 gauge

Tomorrow if I get a chance, I'll run some test cuts on the other gauges mentioned above otherwise it'll happen in the next few days

All with a 1.0 kerf width, and running the new air compressor and desiccant filter setup

    @Kwikvette

Forgot to tell you. Your target held up perfectly to 9mm at about 20ish yards.

Then my dumb ass friends hit it with their AR's after I told them not to and turned it into Swiss cheese.

Totally forgot to get a pic cuz I had to leave early but wanted to thank you! Had a lot of fun with it.

Haha I'll make sure they take care of it.

I have some cad files I drew up for some targets a few years ago that I never got cut. I'll get em cut and send them the bill lol.

I was teasing but to shoot I am guessing 5.56mm at targets for pistol .

If they don`t penetrate they can go in almost any direction.

good practice weld the holes closed.

One thing when every one can weld and all manor of plate falls of trucks.

Targets get made on a constant basis .

Little more test cutting today, knocked out 3/16"

Many of the results were close, like 10 gauge but I found a clear winner here

@mjbtaco was the Raiders sign still intact? Holding together strong?

My mom called me yesterday about wanting to visit but also had a request for that same sign I made

She said it doesn't have to be layered or anything, it's for her friends, but I thought I'd take it upon myself to make it layered and painted for her anyway

Also, I added a detail to separate the face from the helmet for better contrast
