I guess I've only bought them from airgas probably don't stock them cause they don't fit under a hood. Good idea to use it for grinding, they clog up quickerduring grinding.

I would get a piece of 1/8" and try it in the bender first. If it doesnt work and you have to use 1/16" its not the end of the world. Get .030 wire and do some small hot welds. And if you blow through it just use a series of tacks to close the hole back up. Thin gauge is tricky no matter what you use or what metal it is. Takes practice and heat control is key b

I can't give you any advice on mig welding aluminum as I only tig it. But what I would suggest is not to go with 16 gauge, it should work but 1/8 would be what I would go with strength wise. I'm sure you know but make sure to get an alloy that will bend and keep it's structural integrity, some alloys don't like to bend at all. Are you in the sf bay area? If so I have AC tig.

Are there any shops near you If someone stopped by our shop and explained what they were doing we would give them whatever scrap they wanted. If you're not in the area I'll ship you a few scraps in one of those flat rate boxes if you pay shipping. I'm not sure what we have but there is a bin full of alum. To add to my last post some alum alloys don't weld as well as others, st leat with tig so thats another thing to look at. Also check online suppliers, might be cheaper then the local places.

Yoh dont need 6061. It has a higher tinsel stregth but that also means its more prone to cracks due to shock loads. I would go 4043. Has good strength, has some flex to it and has good weld characteristics.

Yes steel is but there are different alloys, though generally just "mild" steel., We just got a job in that calls for COR-TEN it is designed to oxidize but not corrode. Fucking expensive these people want some chain thing to hold up a bed on their porch, we big them some crazy number. Fucking rich people the stupid shit we do for some people and the money they spend is ridiculous  fucking patinas and shit...

It does sound cool and I've never worked with it but they seriously want to spend 18 grand on fucking chain material alone is around $800. All water jet cut half links welded and blended out I am seriously looking forward to this fun work:eek: Seriously though it can be fun at times.

Me too, imagine all the beer yuu could buy. The annoying thing is is these people spend 10 grand on a "powder room" sink that never gets used, if I had that money oh god the things I would do, I'd have some awesome toys:D But the good thing is I wouldn't have any money if it wasn't for these people.

I am, I just like to complain. Though the problem with a lot of it is it's hard to bid cause it's all different and we do most of the installs and everyone likes to think it's easy for the finish guys to float it or shim it lol

This is more how I think:drunk:

305 D, so far so good. Smooth machine. 2500 hours, It runs 8 hours a day 5 days a week.

My only complaint is there is only 2 settings for idle. High idle and auto. So when I start it in the morning on auto to warm it up it revs the shit out of it for about 10 seconds then idles down. It does have glow plugs but still. I would like for it to start at idle not full throttle.

The bottom one looks different because the exhaust vents down instead of straight forward. Better for not fogging up glasses and stuff. The light gray two tone on top is the medium or small size. Large is all gray.
The big box cartridges are for organic vapors. Plus it looks like they have the prefilter installed. The pink discs (p100) is what we use for welding in the shipyard.
We also use the same 3m half mask and full face. I also have a few of each at home :D Full face is great for grinding.

    :edit:
You can see the difference in colors/sizes here:

Also, I just bought a Tweco Fabricator 181i for home use. Love it so far :)

Not using that giant tig torch tho. I also have a weld craft wp24. Just wish it could tig AC.
