Use some cardboard and make a template with the factory mounts then trace it out on some plate and cut

I meant location on the truck. Like just bolt it where the crash bar was?

Yep. Mine is bolted to where the stick one was as well as the body mount and the bottom cross member. that way it is on in 3 places and less likely to move.

Ahh I feel dumb, thought it was a rear bumper
Was like uhh, isn't that kind of self explanatory? haha
but yea id use every factory location and wherever else within reason as to not hinder use of whatever its bolted to

I was very suprised how easy that 3/16 bent. I used two c clamps to clamp it to a trailer and just walked it up till my cuts met. I wont have quite the leverage on my to outer cuts but hopefully it wont be too bad. Also suprised that it bent straight but i guess the legs kept it feom tweaking.

Maybe you guys can help me. My welder is acting strange lately. It will lay a fine weld, then the next one will be kind of crappy. See pics. The good weld was first, then the one covered in brown dust was immediately after. It is still a strong weld when cleaned up, but when it happens the wire doesn't arc like usual. It kind of arcs in bursts so it sometimes poops a lot of bigger spatter balls all around the weld.

    Any ideas? Bad ground?

I've been doing a lot of welding lately and it is getting irritating. I spend a lot more time chipping and grinding than I used to.

My mig gun need a new liner. So times at weird angles the wire will burn back. But my machine can't handle how much I'm welding.

    A couple spools ago.

And correct, it was bone dry and clean as any other area I was welding.

At work sometimes the powerwave machine set on pulse mig will do that when at the wrong angle and will make a funky noise

I don't know if the pulse feature even works. I leave it on continuous. This issue really escalated when I had to weld at 208 volts instead of the usual 230v. Even though the input voltage says it can handle 208, it didn't weld well at all. It wasn't the usual bacon frying sound either. I played with my amperage but never could find one that welded well. Then going back to 230v it seems to do the same thing now.

Finally got around to welding my cuts/bends still have two more to make now that its sturdy again. Also learned that even a slight down hill weld is not revomended with a 7018 bc the puddle will out run u in a hurry ha[IMG] and a little flap disc never hurt anyone (unless they touched it)[IMG]

Stuff and things that make it better.
Is your welder the MM200 in the pic, if so I run the same machine and have had the same problem in the past. I changed out the liner, added a wire cleaner before the rollers and cut and reattached my ground clamp, so far that seemed to take care of the issue.

Yep, that's the one. Millers never die! Even so, I'm getting a lincoln 256 next. I'm going to start with the ground clamp since it looks like it has been to hell and back. It's too short anyway.

looks like it needs a liner and the wire is getting bound up with sharp gun angles or awkward positions. Try adding a little bit of tension to the drive rolls and see if it helps. Also replace the liner, tip, and use a felt cleaner/lube pad on the wire to extend liner life.
I've had it happen, seems to be a combination of those things leading to inconsistent feed making it weld that way

Liners are cheap, so I ordered one. I've heard every 3rd spool you should change it, so it's about due.
