Pretty much stock with some crap welded to it.
Made some filler plates for the all pro Baja bumper, came out ok my welding was alittle rusty and I attempted to do a stitch weld kind of thing but not sure if I love the look, I love how they finish the top of the bumper though,

So I'll admit, a quick search did not directly reveal the answer to my inquery, so I'll ask here.

What is a great helmet to get for a first time purchase.

Now I'm not going to become a welder by trade, but I have got quite a few projects already lined up. So I plan to be using the hood quite a bit. I hate buying something to get bye only to purchase another ( insert item) later to either upgrade or replace a broken item. I figure a few hundred should be a good price point to start. I have no problem paying a bit more for a superior unit.

thanks for the help. first class is in two weeks!

X2 for the lincoln hoods. A quality hood is night and day difference from a cheap harbor freight/northern tool hood. I've used both. Once you get a nice one you can never go back to a cheap one. And your eyes are important. Don't put cheap stuff in front of them

    Thanks for the response guys.

I looked into the 3550. Does the taller viewing area make a huge difference over the miller digital? Or does the width matter more. They are about equal everywhere else, at least on paper, for what specs they each provide.

Digital elite is not worth the money IMO. I own one, but for near the same price I rock my Optrel E680 on a daily basis over the miller hood.
Speedglas makes some pretty nice mid-range auto dark hoods too, check them out

I'm a huge fan of my Lincoln/Ancor 3350 as well. Comes with a bunch of freebies... In fact, the gloves that came with it are pretty awesome.

Never really found a use for the do-rag (sp?) that it came with...

I've got a $49 Harbor Freight hood for friends that are helping out in my shop.

are they making you run the root and hot uphill? or are you doing that by choice? not judging either way, just curious.

imo, tests are easier to pass uphill, (less chance of suck-back), but at the same time, with a loose fitup/ small land, its easy to fail by over-reinforcement

Finished my new welding/workbench table. Wanted to make something heavy duty but easy to move. 48" x 32" 1/4" carbon plate supported by angle, 2" x 1/4" flatbar, and 4" x 1/4" channel. 2" sch 40 pipe legs and 1" sch40 pipe spreaders. Legs are capped with nuts welded to the inside. Still need to order leveling feet from McMaster Carr. Right now just have 1/2" bolts to level out the table and raise it off the castors.

do you guys order your consumables online or just at your local shops?

Im getting ready to place a decent sized order and just on the electrodes, HD and Lowes are quite a bit cheaper than my nearest distributor. My instructor looked at the quote and thought it looked a bit high as well. That's what got me on the hunt.

    Thanks
