Haha thanks man. At least I was able to borrow a welder to get this trailer done in working on.

I'm looking for a used power mig 255-256, millermatic 251-252, or fabricator 252i. Nothing available for a decent price around here though.

    Been there.

I decided right then and there to always have a spare. It may have been a waste of money. Back in 2005?, I picked up a nice MM185 for a backup unit. I set it up, built maybe 2 trailers, and into storage it went to keep for emergencies. The MM250 I bought in 1996 is still working like new.

I've said many times, buy the best machine you can. It will be the only tool in your shop that will last your lifetime.

    Later

    Ryan:

What bumper is that? I need to fab up a bumper for my project truck and am presently feeling out which bumper I want to clone. Presently the ARB style is in front, but I kind of like the lines of the one on your truck.

Any other pics you can share?

    Thanks

Kirk, Front or rear bumper? I have a few different bumper designs I've built, so it depends which one you are looking at.

Primarily the front. Won't mind a few of the back if they are easy access.

    Thanks

My dad's work is hiring aluminum tig welders starting at $30 an hour. Wish I could tig well enough to do it. They work 70 hours a week on average.

I heard the oilfields are starting to lay off people already. The guys in ND are getting nervous. Some of those wells don't pay unless oil is $100+ per barrel.

Bought a welder today. The guy was local and dropped it off on his way to work. I had a choice between this 255 and a fabricator 252i. I chose the lincoln for the duty cycle and large gas cylinder. It's in real nice condition and welds great. Digital is so nice for parameter accuracy.

Oh, sorry. I just meant sometimes, it's worth it to get into something even in a crappy shift (nights) to get somewhere else.

I'd think long and hard before you say no to that job..

Everything's going to require a little sacrifice; definitely something I've grown to learn. One of the shittiest calls I've ever gotten was from the other engineer on a Bering Sea boat that I was working on. I'd literally just gotten home after 3 months in Dutch Harbor - was taking month off. Thought he was bullshitting me initially, but his wife had just been hospitalized. Meaning I had to fly back up.

It sucked balls, but the paycheck made it totally worth it. Sure, I had to sacrifice, but I think that's a common theme amongst a lot of people that choose to make their living outside of a cubicle.

It really pays not to burn bridges - exploit every single reference and connection that you've got in the industry.

    Just my .02.
