A few nights here or there is fine, but night shift sucks the fat d. When everyone else is enjoying their weekend at the beach, you're sleeping because you have to work that night. I would do it though.

I knew you you would land that job, just by the looks of those welds.

Now, just don't fail the more important test...the attitude test. You are going to see this time and time again. Why are some people being let go, but others are kept on, even though the work they do is sub standard? The reason is , people would rather work with half ass with a good attitude vs a person who has awesome skills and is dick.

On the plus side, most places would be boring if everyone was a perfect worker. There would be nothing to talk about. After all, the number one topic in a work place is to bitch and complain. Its human nature.

Again, congrats on the job. Get experience and always keep your ears and eyes open for opertu ity to advance.

    Wow!

5+ days and not a single update...that I know of. I was worried I killed a thread. I guess when someone gets a job, thread updates take a back seat, which is good.

Hope to see some updates, I'll try to add, but have been just as buisy.

Got a question for the welders here, I got a job that requires a lot of welding. It's mostly stainless tig. I can weld stainless pretty good but I've never had a welding job or anything just know how. However I suck balls at using the filler rod to weld them together.

They told me the filler rod makes the weld stronger. Is this true? I though it would just be for gaps.

Any tips on how to add the filler rod and not make the welds look like shit?

I love the tig finger Its saved my hand many times.

Adding filler will make a stronger joint and you don't want gaps for tig welding you want a tight fitment. If your getting full pen on your joint you will want to back purge with argon or solar flux or you will get sugaring on the back of the joint. What's the specs on the job is it food grade?

Yea it's in a poultry plant, so it's food grade not sure about what the back purge stuff is or if they even do it. Most of the tig welders that have are plugged into old stick welders and are hard to adjust the amps too.

    What is sugaring.

Yeah sorry to tell you might not be ready for that job. You won't be able to use solar flux on food grade equipment so you will need to back purge the joint if your getting full pen. Sugaring is oxidation on the back side of the joint argon is required to stop this in food grade applications..if It's thick material you can get away with no back purge but they might be requiring full pen. You will also need to know what finish to put on the parts. #4 is the roughest finish that's concerned food grade witch is 220 grit to 320 grit anything less and bacteria can get in there and grow!

Yeah I'd pass on that job if you don't know any of this already, if you dont have the experience it's not worth whatever money they want to pay you if you can't do it right. It'll end up being a headache for everyone.

Already have the job, it's general maintenance. So I'll be doing a little bit of everything not just welding.

Also got hired because I know a good bit about hvac and refrigeration, also some welding but I told them I'm not an expert at it.

Okay so you work for the company It's not a contract job? First thing I would do is have them get a proper tig the Miller maxstar 200 would be a good portable unit for DC tig. Then of I were you I'd get alot of torch time watch tons of videos on stainless tig welding.

Maybe I need to go explain the job a little better, I'm not really building any equipment, but if a part of the equipment breaks or cracks I could have to weld it back together. The most complicated thing I would have to make is a drip pan for under a conveyor belt.

I'll watch more tig videos too. I learned welding in high school and it was a lot easier with the foot and hand control welders. But even then we didn't do too much tig welding.

Any legitimate shop would be able to source any steel they can work with. Sounds sketchy.

This ^ I would never have my customer source the material for the job unless they had it already.
