You must be using the wrong ones

 

Have you used the cubitron 2 fiber disc in a real comparative test? Because I have. I saved my previous employer over $600 a month on abrasives by getting them to switch to the cubitron 2. They cut ridiculously fast and last up to 5 times as long as the flap discs I compared. Norton sucks, lehigh sucks, sait is alright, dewalt are alright, pferd are good, 3m are good. Fiber discs smoke all.

It's a 3m 982c. They come in several sizes and grits. I prefer the 5" 36 grit. They cut fast and I can still finish blend pretty well with them. You will also need a backing plate for these, $12. It shouldn't wear out as long as you don't chew it up on edges. Our local supplier is about $3 a disc.

Welded on some frame plates. This is the second set I've done. Easy enough.

 

I hate welding around tube.

 

I picked up a 25 pack to test them out and they do cut a hell of a lot faster but im not sure they will work for our application. On big heavy welds they should be great but most of the stuff we do there needs to be no evidence of a blend and im concerned with how fast they cut. Time will tell ill be picking up a finer grit then 36 to see how the polish is.

 

Just got my first mobile welding job its a gravy job fixing some broken cattle pens and repairing cracked welds. Told the lady it'd only be $20/hr cause she's a big shot in this town and will hopefully get me more jobs and then I can start raising the price once I make enough connections.

 

$20 bucks an hour I think your short changing yourself! Hell you can blow $20 bucks in consumables in a hour.

 

Only gas and rods and my real consumables. And the welds are 1" long so it won't take many rods at all. I know its cheap but I'm currently unemployed making $0/hr so its better than nothing.

 

What does everyone use to clamp two pieces that aren't 90 degrees? I'm building a simple bed rack and the support legs will come off at less than 45 degrees. I found this magnet, just now sure how well it works: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200308329_200308329

 

Use it but always double check with a protractor square or whatever you have. I use magnets all the time but always check. Kinds like the carpenter saying but instead check twice and leave that Damn grinder out of it haha

 

My problem with that is that if you start off being super cheap and people tell everyone you are cheap they will always expect it and you will have a harder time asking for more down the road.
