No problem. I've got a buddy who is teaching me tig here soon. I've got a mig welder at my parents house (I'm in college and live in an apartment) and use it alot but want to learn tig here soon. Aspiring to lay beads like that one day. lmao

TIG all of the things. It's the only process we use at work unless it's on the main structure.

Thanks brah. Welding is hard in the long run of things. Like yea welding beads on plate in a lab is easy. But welding at odd angles in tight spots with your left hand while being required to make welds that pass QC.... Sucks lol. This field of work has definitely opened my eyes at the difference between someone who can weld and someone who's a weldor.

You are just now taking notice of this ??

So few welders so many trigger pullers

Then the welder is broken when the company can`t take the time to down load the users manual and learn how to set up the machine!!

    Your welds like good !!

A few weeks ago I was running TIG on some 11gauge 308, upside down, in a chute just barely wider than my shoulders. I had been running the welder so long that I had a glove wrapped around the torch so I could hold it without being burned through my gloves. I had a burn on my neck, that everyone called a hickey, from dropping my filler rod. The fucker didn't go away for a month.

Well guys, tomorrow's the big day, 7018 and flux vertical, visual on the root and caps.
If I pass I'll be hired, if not then I'll take another semester and learn some more skills.

If your not allowed some practice ( as much as you want) It is not a fair test.

Could it be it was planned this way after what 2 weeks or so off??

To bad you need more $$$ classes

    Best of luck !!!

    Thanks, will do.

We're able to go in at 6:00 and practice until 8:00. We have also been practicing the past 3 weeks.

We had a week off for thanksgiving so I haven't welded in 10 days, but I'm not that worried about it because the past 3 months all I've done is run 7018 4 days a week for about 6 hours a day.

Thanks, I'm pretty confident going in with what my teacher has told me about my welds in the past.

Not sure exactly but the 5 weeks of training after you get the job (before you pass all positions flux and 7018 X-ray) is $15/hr and when you get to the yard base pay is close to $19/hr.

    Not sure, I know there's 5-8's and 4 shifts, 0600-1400, 1400-2200, 2200-0600, and 0000-0600.

And you can work Saturday and Sunday if you want.
