I am guess the side panels are long gone.

The cooling system is set up to work better with them on.

    Check the brushes !!

Best of luck with the new addition to the family

Brushes are great ! I didn't know about the side panels and cooling. I assumed it'd cool better with them off so didn't even think to ask.

People mount them on trucks with no room to open them

They get taken off and forgotten all about or used for some project

So if this rig is going on a trailer, I need to find some side panels for it or just leave it?

    Your call !!

With the rain your having I sure would not want all that water getting in .

Gas engines can get a little finicky if there getting wet all the time.

unless it is going to live inside most of the time .

I would not even worry about them. My trail gear sliders are angled up and with gussets and i ended up tearing the sliders off the frame before bending anything. Stupid toyota frame that's built out of rust.

EDIT: Im using at Millermatic 141 (MIG). Between the butt joint and the lap joint, i turned the amps down a little bit.

Also, using Washington Alloy Co. .030 flux core

    With shielding gas or without?
It looks like you should slow down some, your bead looks like 6010 in the bottom 2 pics.

Electrode is type of rod if stick welding (E.G. 6010, 6011, 7018)

Without shielding gas, just the flux core.

and what does 6010 mean? Im a complete newb and have no problem asking questions to learn. So i apologize ahead of time for the dumb questions.

Thanks. I started speeding up a little because I thought the puddle was getting too big in my loops? should I change the wire speed to adjust this or turn amps down more

I can't comment on how it should look without shielding gas.

6010 is a stick electrode, the bead looks like this.

If you were welding dual shield (Flux with gas) it should look like this.

I have never welded flux core without gas before so I don't know much about it, but I wouldn't do the loops, loops are for MIG and 6010, flux core (The way I was taught to run it) you stay in the puddle and put the bead where you want it, straight line and your speed dictates the puddle size.

I thought flux core was still MIG, just a different kind of shielding (ie flux core). in all the videos ive seen (and yes ive spent DAYs watching to learn haha) no one has not done loops with flux core, its all been the same loops (unless they started running vertical T joints)
