Back to welding in the shop today, 6010 open root plates.
3/8" plate 37.5 degree bevel 3/32" gap land is the width of the nickel or a little heavier 1/8" fleet weld 5p+ rod at 83 amps

Still working on getting the puddle size/timing down but I think Monday when I go back it should be fairly simple.

Do any of y'all know about arc force control (Miller machines)? the teacher doesn't know much about it other than 6010 welds better on 50 and 7018 welds better on 15-20.

The Arc force is a way to soften the arc like 7018 or turning it up gives one a more crisp arc one gets from a 6010.

    Personal preference !!

Changes output characteristics without increasing output current .

Then one most often wants to change settings between different positions

Over the years it has been called by many different names by different Manufactures

What they all do is change the induction

I think 80 % or more people have no clue just like changing frequency on the Dynasty

image.jpg i just wanted to close out my discussion with the backhoe bucket, got it done today, teeth on, and just need to wire brush and paint the back...

The cutting edge is reinforced with grouser bar, the stuff used to rebuilt dozer shoes.

All steel and no wood is def your best bet. just build your own to suit your needs. Here's a small light duty table I just built as an auxiliary to my main table. All 11 gauge cold roll.

    Very nice.

Could you post a picture of the underside of the tabletop? I'd like to see how you supported the top.

    Thanks.

I just remember the first time I watched someone try to weld grouser bar on dozer shoes (track assemblies), while on the machine, in winter...every weld cracked due to too small a welder and no preheat! Finally he got a big diesel powered machine and 1/4 rod and did them single pass!

As for the yellow, the buckets of that era were NOT supplied by Deere, and the aftermarket guys always painted them black.

It took me about five pounds of 7018ac rod before I started getting good at it...I had to keep making the tip of the rod dance to avoid sticking and keeping the puddle going.

Thanks for the help and support on this one, one of the more challenging welding jobs I have done.

Cat Down near Phildelphia Had a neat Sub Arc set up to weld them on Years ago

Back then I think they did a Track exchange for contractors that wanted a fast turn around time

    Thanks for the picture.

I was thinking the table needed to be much heavier - I guess I was over-thinking it.

That one is just a lightweight table that easy to roll around though... I'm mainly going to use it for cleaning parts and putting jigs on it that don't require a perfect flat surface. You could use a similar design with a 3/16 or 1/4 top and be good to go for a decent amount of weight load and warpage resistance.
Here's my main table built from 4x2 tube and c channel (so I can clamp to the surface). With the toolbox it's extremely heavy and cumbersome to roll around my garage.

Very nice - look really heavy.

Does it sit on wheels all the time, or is there some sort of foot behind the wheels?
