Played around with the drift boat project. I found the cooler/seat base to be too tall. I cut out the floor, made a tray that is 3" deep. Much more comfortable height.

Water over the dam it has been close to 15 years now since it was all over!!

Changing gears here I am seeing Signs along side the road " Pipe Welders wanted Union wage"

Between the Drug test Back Ground Check and Weld Test it appears they can`t get enough people

The Fracking is starting up again as well .

Hooked myself up with a couple new goodies. :D

The table from weldtables.com I'm thoroughly impressed with and well worth the money. I have the wrong legs on it (too tall) but the right ones are on their way. The 252 I picked up from work after they 'downsized' to a new 211 for portability. Very low hrs on it most of which were from me

Also after looking into clamps I decided to just make my own to start. I picked up some cheap woodworking clamps on eBay and modified them with 5/8" rod.

I think you may grow to like the table on the high side. I actually increased me table height. Less bending over to weld on the table. I'm 5-9".

    Nice table.

Yeah I actually do like like it up high like that for small parts. The thing is most of my welding is bumpers, so lifting 100+ lb peices on and off might get old real quick lol. It's 44.50" high now and will be 40.00" with the new legs so I think that will work well. My other benches are 36" so it'll be a welcome change.

1/4 ton chain fall from an eye bolt in the ceiling. I'm done lifting over 40 pounds. The boss can kiss my ass if he thinks it takes too much time using the chain falls. He will really be upset when I take week of sick leave to heal my back.

Some friends of mine are building a house and the handrail they want around the stairway will be similar to this design.
Do y'all think that it would be possible to put the turnbuckle inside the upright and tension the cables from there? I think it would look much cleaner than putting turnbuckles outside or using eye hooks and using a tensioner.

I saw a railing at work with the same type of deal but no turnbuckles. Basically what it looks like they did is they went through with the cable on the end post and pulled the cable super tight and slid on a flanged sleeve and crimped it with a swaging tool so it would stay tensioned on the outside of the tube. Reasoning for the flanged sleeve was so the ugly part of the sleeve that was crimped could sit inside the tubing and the the flanged sleeve would keep the tension on the outside of the tube

That sounds like a good idea, I'll have to check into it.

I've done a few. It really did look better in person lol I'm pretty hard on myself when it comes to welds cause I wanna get slick at it.

Plus it was basically conduit to galvanized plate using 7018 lol. Wasn't basic mild carbon to carbon.

No bevel or anything. We are just building pipe supports so it's nothing crazy

    That explains the undercutting.

Yea I was burning it cold to try and counteract the undercut but oh well.

I get sick just thinking of the welding of Galvanized Steel

When I was welding Mack Truck Cabs

It was not so much from my welding but the other welder on the other side of the cab

The Door post acted like a chimney all the fumes went up the door post through the space between the double cab roof and down the other side
