I don't need another welder, but I really want to try one of these machines.

Maybe after the holidays, after some money is freed up, I might buy one to test out, then sell it. I just can't bring myself to return it to the store for a full refund. Just seems unethical.

I do see the same machines listed on Ebay for $100 more than what you can buy the things at HF. I guess if someone buys it, its their own fault for not researching.

The Hobart machines are built on the same assembly lines as the Miller machines - the only difference is features.

Either way, you can't go wrong.

No Hobart`s have there own line.

    In a different building

Every machine Built has it`s own line the quality control is hard enough just think if they mixed things up

We should have pitched in and bought Kirk one of those Vulcan welders for Christmas

Well if you people buy these find out if Tech Support and parts are easy to get

What consumables does the gun and spool gun use ??

Just what if anything Voids the warranty ??

It seems Hobart machines usually have discrete voltage taps while Millers have infinite, but it's a minor difference.

That is not a deal killer.

I have both styles. The machine with the taps is a much better welding machine.

Not saying this is common with all welder makers, but it shows that taps are not inferior to a reostat.

Yup, not necessarily a plus or minus, just a difference.

On that topic, just have a Uber hard time using machines with digital readout.

I seem to adjust my machines by position of the dials. I have a hard time remembering the digital setting that worked previous. A dial, I just remember the position of the dial indecator.

Not to mention the cock suckers that will walk by my machine and twist the dials when I'm off throwing a whizz.

The trouble with tapped voltage I have customers who no matter how often I tell them still set the dial between the detents

Your wife changes your settings like that??

The machines I've used with 1 to 10 or some generic measurement usually have lines scratched in for voltage, WFS, material thickness or person's name. I keep a little notebook with my welders and write down values that worked. It's specific to the welder, too. Two different machines won't be exactly the same anyway and how you work with the machine changes what works.

Best yet is just a arrow pointing up !!

I had one company years ago that had a huge press like 200 tons after it was installed and had a few years of age it got a little tired on the down stroke it drew so much current the newer welders went crazy.

To make it more fun the press was used as needed so the first time I was there it was not used even asking if anything might be causing a massive draw no one give it a thought .

If things don`t act up you can`t find them

I always wanted to learn how to weld so I finally ordered a Miller 211 the other day. Looking forward to learning how to lay down some beads.

Get it any way you can. You will not regret it. I picked up a used Hypertherm 65 after selling my street bike with never having used a plasma cutter before. I am only a hobbyist who mainly uses it for my truck and small projects for close friends and my brothers, but the hours, frustration, and fatigue that it has saved me from having to rely solely on cutting wheels is so damn worth it.

Just today, I was able to cleanly cut the pieces I need to make my shock towers in a matter of 10 minutes.

Maybe if I did more Aluminum and Stainless work I guess using the Oxy- Fuel torch is just a life long habit .

The only difference flip a switch or open the tanks
