My main concern is that you have a clound of hydrogen gas in a fab shop when you do this; hydrogen gas is ~20x lighter than ambient air and with active ventilation, it may not be a problem, but i was just letting it be known that it could quickly become a problem under the right circumstances. And then i briefly tried to explain where the h2 came from and the by products of the reaction.

I agree. Causing an explosive condition will take a very tightly enclosed environment.

The scenario is possible, but not likely.

I compliment you on your chemistry lesson. It is very good to be aware.

Here is my 2g TIG root (horizontal groove weld on 3/8” plate)Just finished my 2nd year schooling for welding here in Alberta.
As a sheet metal worker, its a bit out Of my scope of work but new challenges are fun. Its not perfect, but not bad.
For those who may not know, they really only care how the backside of the weld turns out.

I took a creative welding class through the adult education offerings at the high school, one night a week last fall. It was fun, I'll do it again

Would a 25ft run hold for this specs on 120V?

Think you should be OK. My welding plug is right by my breaker box & I use a heavy gauge extension cord built for the Mig & I believe it's 25ft long.

    14-2 15amp.

I would run 12-2 on a 20 amp breaker for that welder.

I ran that circuit with a 15A breaker a few years back. I guess I can just replace the wiring and breaker. It Is basically behind the breaker box.

Can a dual voltage outlet be install with the same cable? 110/220 @30amps?
I would not run both voltages at once.
Or should I just run two cables?
I'm setting up my welder outlets in the garage.

No, for a 30A breaker, you should be using #10 wire. Your breaker will determine your minimum wire size.

And there is no dual voltage outlet. An outlet/receptacle is either 120v or 240v. You can wire in two different outlets, one 120v and another at 240.

Cool thanks. I guess I meant having the 110 and the 220 outlets in the same box on the wall.

Yeah, you can do that. Just use the appropriate 240v outlet so someone doesn't accidentally plug in a 120v appliance into the 240v outlet. I've personally seen that happen.

First How much did you get paid to haul this away??

Unless that was stored or used in a climate controlled area the last 20 years I will be surprised it still works

The transformer insulation tends to break down.

Works on the same principal as the newer ones a shunt moves in the transformer to change output .

I would guess the battery charger might have a secondary transformer to regulate voltage if you pull the cover should be easy to figure out

Then it could just pull out of the main transformer might be 6 volts

I hope your used to Arc starting on AC
