So I recently got a Hobart 210 MVP. What gas and mix do people recommend?

Edit: I'm new to welding so any other tips or suggestions on accessories I need to get when using gas are greatly appreciated.

Sweet; thanks, @Titus94. To verify, that's 75 argon and 25 CO2, right? Where do you recommend buying a new tank and also getting it filled in the future?

best tip...get a lesson or take some classes.

Outside of that just get as much scrap metal as you can and start sticking them together. The chart on the 210mvp (which I have) is a decent starting point but youll learn sometimes you want less heat or less wire speed or more wire speed and less heat...ect from what the chart says.

Laying beads on plate does good for practicing technique and getting welds to not look like crap (ugly welds (IMO) often mean crap welds....but at the same time a pretty weld doesn't always mean good penetration too). Once you have the hang of just laying beads practice doing some joints. Butt and T joints work well and are easy enough to do. Once you have those welded, cut them perpendicular and check how much penetration you are actually getting.

After all that...make yourself a welding cart...its a great first project and it will teach you quite a bit about fabrication too

What I learned from trial and error is to make sure the metal you are welding is very clean. As in, no mill scale, rust, oil, paint, etc.....

Cyberweld.com has tanks for pretty cheap and they come filled with free shipping. Then you just exchange it at your local welding supply for a full one when you run out.

Talk about Electrical Since there can be a gillizon different plugs once your into 3 phase and the female plugs can cost around $800.00 and up we just use alligator clips** to connect to input cords .

These are rated for 75 amps First Time I saw that I thought very interesting

Always Check with your local distributors about there Customer Owned Cylinder Policy

It can vary quite a bit on How Well your known and what companies labels are on the cylinder

Looks good to me. You are far more consistent than I am.
What thickness aluminum you welding on? Tungsten size? Filler size?

    I hear you.

Craig can sometimes be hard to follow. He thinks periods and commas cost money on the internet.

No worries, after spending sone time on this thread, you will be fluent "Craig".

Sorry, Craig. I was compelled to comment. All your post have value. Keep them coming...I enjoy a good mystery. Lol.

My comments are completely in jest. No sarcasm is intended. Just here to have new info presented...and have fun.

Glad this thread has the legs it does. I really enjoy it.

Lap joints suck. I definitely need more practice with them.

My computer skills suck at best!

I still have a hard time turning the stupid thing on .

If I did not need one for work I most likely would not have one.
