That’s all good stuff... I say that because I own about half of it already. Haha. My first welder I bought recently was actually that Hobart 210. It’s been an awesome machine to learn on.

Going to be fabricating some skid plates probably this weekend. Really looking forward to making some legitimate truck parts. Depending on how that goes, I’ll try my hand at building a rear bumper.

    Three words...Electric arch furnace.

Electric power prices are better than half the cost of steel production. Takes a hell of a lot of electricity to run a smelter.

It might not even be the cord just the added connections can be enough to cause enough line loss to drop it enough

Don’t have any pictures of it. I made it out of some 2”x3” rectangular tube with a short pipe nipple welded to it that fit into my shop vac hose. Just mounts at the rear underside of the blade path and is fitted pretty tight to the saw base. There is a chip deflector on the top of my saw base with a hole that lets the chips go under the saw . My chip collection thing just catches the chips from there and they are sucked out of it. Basically just an extension of the chip deflector that is built into the Evolution saw base that a I can hook a hose to.

Here’s my first go at building skid plates. Learned quite a few lessons today. Lol. But I got a good usable product nonetheless. Still going to add a few gussets and cut off some of those sharp edges tomorrow. But it’s late and I’m tired. C8D2E9FE-41A3-46BC-8E4C-68D6468A41FC.jpg

That sure is the hope. After lifting it about a hundred times to test fit I’m sure glad I opted for the 3/16 and not the 1/4 inch. Here it is with the added gussets.

Just a helpful hint from an old millwright. When you are making access holes make them round. Round holes don’t crack as easy as the corners on a square hole like you have cut for your drain plug. The square corners create stress points.a good set of hole saws is a worthwhile investment for your future fabrication. Skid looks great and should take a beating great job! I love to see when people take ownership of their stuff and build stuff the way they want it.

Thanks for the advice. I had originally designed it with a 2 inch round hole however my hole saw wasn't cooperating and my impatience got the better of me. I think I may square up the edges a little better, fill in the over cuts from the grinder, sand it flush then reinforce around the hole with some flat stock. That should help mitigate any cracking from future stresses, hopefully.
