x2 on the bandsaw. I like them because they are quite and are somewhat of a labor multiplier. I can set everything up, start the cut, and walk away to do something else, saw turns itself off when the cut is finished. You can also flip it to the vertical position and use it a vertical bandsaw by putting a table in the saws vice.

    Thanks for the replies.

I would use it maybe a couple of times a month. I like bandsaws, but space is at a premium. A chop saw can get stashed on a shelf or under the welding table. A bandsaw would likely take up a similar amount of floor space as the welding table.

Budget wise, I don’t mind spending a little more for a better quality tool. I’ve been looking at the dewalt dw872 for roughly $500, or the evolution rage 2 for about half the price of the dewalt. Or the evolution evosaw380 for about $400.

Be careful. Heard the blades are not cheap on those and you can get 200 cuts from 1 or 1 cut if you don’t know what you’re doing.

I don’t have much experience with them, but to me it seems like it wouldnt be a good choice. I’m looking to make square cuts and miters

Portabands are awesome and definitely the best choice for certain jobs. But I’d bet if I handed one to 10 different guys who hadn’t used them a bunch, only 2-3 could make a straight cut

I really like my wen bandsaw. It's not top of the line but I've made a ton of cuts already with it and I love it. The blades are cheap too. It's perfect for my purposes.

Yea I’m actually sad leaving this time. My boss was a good boss but this is just something I gotta do for my growth and future. Really hard to find a good boss these days but by golly I had one.

Sadly the ones I have used are mostly in the $2500.00 range.

Yes Blades are expensive and your really limited in what you can cut.

I won a chop saw at a welding Expo years ago I gave it away 15 minutes later

    A thing or two...
Your welding table must be tiny, or you're looking at huge bandsaws. A consumer/prosumer vertical bandsaw shouldn't take up much more than about 2'x2' of floor space. A horizontal will take up more, but if you get one with wheels, it can be stored under a shelf or workbench (if it's tall enough). You can also just store it against a wall and pull it out when needed.

There was a saw like that in one of the shops I worked on a project in at my last job. I forget the brand, but it cut really well. It had plastic jaw covers which I wasn't a fan of, but it made quick work of all the bolts I was chopping down to size.

I was referring to horizontal, and my welding table will be 2’x4’
