If the fit up was good pulling things where they needed to go and the welds were spaced out.

Why would it pull out of shape.

Granted with no thought and just welding it would be a mess.

The trick is knowing how to use the fit up and welding to pull things to the position you desire .

I learned this in school before the dinosaurs .

When I was a kid we had a hacksaw, one blade, and half the teeth were missing, that was it. We were poor.

    ...not my first rodeo

Time and variance of weld location are your friends in situations like these. Cool down process between welds is key... otherwise you’ll have an oversized banana like you’re saying

So those TC alignment tabs I welded the other day was for my photographer buddy, and he wanted to take pics while I worked. I thought these came out pretty cool and wanted to share.

As you can see I like to get up close and personal with my work lol

Small panel for the side of rv gates.

The main gates I posted a few pages back before they got their tops.

C0153293-990B-477E-9E44-CF79A6DA5DF2.jpg Here’s the posts for the gates. 4x4 .188 wall. Some heavy pieces of metal. But was fun to weld the hinges too. Welding thick metal is always fun. One small panel goes on the house side because of the gas meter and it’ll get another panel on the retaining wall side because of the fire hydrant.

Never tried it and airgas is just a little farther so I’ll go to them and get a roll. May get a 2lb roll of .023 to finish this off and my usual 11lb of .030

I should have taken a picture but a customer brought in a large drain funnel from an auto store that had a crack around the base. He tried to weld it and blew a big hole in it. First thing I did was take the torch and burn all the oil off where it needed welded then turned the welder down low. Took it back a few minutes ago and he couldn’t believe it :D
