Thanks, just takes LOTS of practice. I've been fortunate enough to have access to a tig welder here at school.

    Thanks Jerry!

Yeah that's what I did last summer. Started by laying beads on flat steel and eventually graduated to 4130 tube.

Quick search turned up nothing - Anyone used Everlast Multiprocess machines? They have a TIG/Stick/Plasma cutter combo and pretty high duty cycles.

Looking at Thermal Arc 3 in 1's (TIG/MIG/Stick) too, but then I guess I'd still be looking for a cutting torch/plasma cutter.

Right now-I'm doing light fab, but I don't want to have to upgrade in a few years to keep pace with a farm/auto hobby. Open to any other suggestions to get the most bang for my bux....

You could save a few bucks by getting a dedicated mig if you don't absolutely need a tig welder. Everything 4x4 or farm related can easily be handled by a mig or stick.

Everlast gets some good reviews for the multi process machines. I've had great luck with Thermal Arc products. Their customer service is also very good. Just remember that a multi process machines won't do everything as well as dedicated machines would but don't let that deter you if all you need is a hobby machine.

I love my thermal arc 3-in-1 welder! Your bumper probably has welds on it done with mine. :D.
I've heard both good and bad on everlast, so its hard for me to say yes or no to their products. I personally proabably wouldnt buy one. I'd go thermal arc multiprocess, and then a dedicated plasma cutter- likely a small hypertherm. I run a Hypertherm PM65 on my CNC table, and i'm sure their 30 and 45 cutters would be great for garage fab as well. Just not quite as powerful as my machine. In plasma cutters, you really get what you pay for it seems!

    Lots of expensive shit
My 30yr old hypertherm just finally died. I run the thermal dynamics on my plasma table and have had great experience. For my hand held I just got a thermal dynamics 42. They gave me 400$ trade in on my broken hyperthern. Couldn't pass it up.

Thermal arc 3in1 are great machines with alot of nice features. Just wish they had an AC side for aluminum

Yes! That is the one thing I really wish they had! But I figure I can still do stainless and mild steel with it if I want, and then after I get better on steel I'll pick up a 186AC/DC for running aluminum TIG. Its a pretty affordable AC/DC.

Picking up a Like new Millermatic 211 today. Much needed upgrade from my older Lincoln 120V Machine. Can't wait to try some stuff out with a decent welder.

What kinds of things to you want to weld?

A stick welder will do a good job but it's a bit more difficult to learn how to weld with than a MIG machine especially if you're going to teach yourself.

Don't have specific plans for it, basically use it for small jobs in my home garage. All I know is that I am tired of my wire welder and want to upgrade.

idk if I'd call stick a step up. It is different.

What things don't you like about your MIG machine?

Well years ago I was learning to weld with a stick welder, and I am finding it hard to weld with this wire welder.

Never heard that before, most find it easier to weld with a mig since it is easier. If you prefer stick then go with it, but for smaller garage projects a mig is usually the better way to do being its easier to weld thinner material and still be able to change some adjustments and weld 1/2-3/4".

What seems to be the trouble? You can always check out www.weldingtipsandtricks.com for some help with technique/settings and what not too.

    This is generally the case.

Still, if you find it easier to stick weld, $375 isn't such a bad deal either.
