cutting a lot of 3/16” for my bumper. I am likely putting more pressure than I should at some points, but I typically try to make the disc do the work. Other times I get frustrated with a 30” cut taking 30 minutes and just want to be done cutting!

good to know. I have ordered all my flap discs and burrs from BA, so I should probably give the cutoff wheels a shot.

Do you run 6” discs on a 7” grinder?

I might take you up on that in the future. Looking forward to see your setup up and running.

Mine time is worth something so I apply an appropriate amount of pressure to cut as quick as I reasonably can. I'm not trying to baby a consumable along.

I run them on a grinder meant for a 4.5" disc. Good PPE, and handle, and I don't put my body in-line with the disc when I'm cutting in the chance of disc explosion. I don't run a guard with a 4.5" disc either, I can't see what I'm cutting. You can see here what a 6" disc looks like on it.

Made some wheel to wheel steps for my duramax a while back, had them powdercoated.

gotcha. For the time being, I’m going to stick with a guard on my cutoff grinder and only go guardless on the flap disc grinder.

I got a piece of metal stuck in my eye last night WHIlE wearing safety glasses. I also had a small disc explosion that caught @tweakit88 in the neck over the weekend.

That's why I wear goggles anytime I'm doing any cutting or grinding, and a face shield too. I've had to go to the hospital to get a piece of metal removed and rust scraped off my eye after it'd been sitting there for 3 days. Talk about unpleasant. And that was with glasses and a shield. The metal will always find a way in.

I fear that I might be in that boat at the moment. It’s a small piece in the white of my eye that won’t come out.

I've had so many pieces of metal cut out of my eyes over the years. Not all but most of them were while wearing safety glasses. It isn't fun!!!

Do you go to an optometrist for that? I don’t even know where to start with getting it looked at.

About 5 hours after I was done cutting, I was sitting on the couch and it felt like someone was next to me cutting onions. Just a kinda burning watery sensation. That was the very first thing I remember so that's what I use a point of reference now if I think I have metal there. After that I thought I just had arc eye, but when it didn't clear up on it's own I went to the hospital and they told me about the tiny piece of metal. Got it removed, later that afternoon was in great pain, and the next morning was back to normal.

mine isn’t necessarily that painful, but I feel it and can visibly see a black spec in the white of my eye that isn’t moving.

Yes! Your eyes are precious and you only get 2, don't let anybody else touch them

I've had stuff drilled out but the last time the lady used a little scalpel and it was quick and easy.

It's probably already rusted, it will only get worse. It probably embedded in there when it was hot.

I can’t touch my eyes. But my wife tried with her finger, maybe I’ll get her to try a q tip.

Worth a shot. If it continues to bug you don't hesitate to get seen because as six5creed said, you've only got two eyes so take care of them. Don't want to cause irreversible damage by waiting.

Been to the ER 3 times with metal in the eye over the years. Just ordered some wrap arounds this time. I had the old school "shop teacher" style all my life. I'd get to the doctor quick. You don't want to develop rust rings like I did.
