Even though the M255 machine and torch is bigger, it still welds the small stuff pretty nice. .030 wire, C25, 1/8" plate.

    I wanna upgrade my 211 to a 252.

I’ve grown super fond of the 252 and the way it welds is amazing. Can’t quite get my 211 to weld the same

I still have the 211 too. Sometimes my 211 would weld somewhat erratic when turned up high as if it was reaching it's limits. The 255 is pretty smooth at all settings.

Good luck! Also, don’t forget about periods. They help greatly with readability.

Post pics of your welds. We’ll do our best to help you out.

Yea I’ll end up keeping the 211 also for mobile side jobs etc.

The 252 is a heavy beast

Yes, I was surprised how heavy the 255 was! Even the Fed Ex guy was tripping out.

I've done a mod or two
Welded a brace/x member kit on a 1955 Chevy 210 frame the other day. I pleased with it

Have a rear cross member for shocks to weld in and a leaf spring frenching to do still, but progress is progress.

Tuesday funday. Or whatever it is. Practicing for a stainless to carbon heavy wall test at work.

there’s a couple arc marks that were on it previously when I got the piece to practice on.

Campfire spit/cooker I made for a coworker a bit ago.Super Cooker 01.jpg Super Cooker 02.jpgI fabbed it up so it would be 3 separate parts. It was built in central Michigan, but needed to travel to the Northern Upper Peninsula.

I've seen a few metal gates from members on this thread and figured I'd reach out to the brain trust here. I'm looking to build a metal gate and could use some assistance.

The gap is roughly 18' and I'm thinking about doing two 8' wide x 4' tall metal panels that look similar to the picture below...

    69dca161c25911c42451f938b0166074.jpg

Building the panels seems pretty straightforward, but it's the rest of the build that I'm unfamiliar with. Does anyone have recommendations for hinges? Also, how have you done the posts (i.e. how big, bury depth etc)? Any pics of your builds and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Can anyone recommend settings for welding to the frame? Specifically, I'm going to try my luck reinforcing the motor mounts in my 05 v6, which have only barely started cracking. I have the repair kit from [insert name of the place that makes the repair kit] and have totally removed the front drivetrain to give myself as much room as possible. Unfortunately I'll be on my back because my jackstands only go so high.

I am very new to welding but am also methodical (i.e., slow). Also, I pretty much live from one unrealistic expectation to the next, so I'm totally used to failure and embarassment. The fun part is trying my best anyway.

I am using a green 240v mig welder from the big cheap tool store chain. I will play around with some scrap metal to refresh my novice skill set, but I don't have a spare Tacoma frame sitting around to run real practice welds here.

    Advice appreciated!

For posts, I would use metal, like a 6x6x1/8 wall and cement them deep (2 feet or so). Then hinges, go to your local steel supply store, they’ll usually have hardware there. Find the beefiest greaseable hinge you can use for your gate doors and weld them on.

Ive never made a gate like this but the above would probably be my approach.

You would have to play around and practice with inverted welding to determine your welder settings. Welding upside down is a whole different ball game. Just be careful it to let any puddle drip on you... it hurts (not that I would know or anything, because... I’ve never done that :) ).

Find what works (settings are SO varied between machines) in the flat position on same thickness scrap material, and bump your wfs up 10/15/20% incrementally for overhead. make it a real science project on your scrap so you don’t blow any holes in your frame
