I have some of his squares as well. I plan on getting his 12x24 extension and putting it on a hinge to extend my table. A 2x4 table is just barely to small figuring most projects will use a common number of 4 feet so having a few extra inches on each side would be nice. I really wants a 30x52 or so table

Can I use the same regular for argon/CO2 mix and 100% Argon?
I think it is time to venture into the mig aluminum world.
Also, aside of cyberweld, any other recommended site to buy a bottle? No I won't lease. No I won't buy in California due to extremely high prices here.

How much does a bottle cost there? Wasn't much different when I moved out here.

Im not an official voice to say if you can use the same regulator, but I’ve done it with good results.

Inspired by someone here (making a rack for a truck that does set rigging, I think?) I finally finished making this behemoth. Took about infinity longer than I thought it would, but now I have a place to stuff all the stock I've been tripping over on the floor for the last 10 years. The right side is a pivot - the left has casters so I can pivot it out just far enough to clear the framing next to the garage door to slide long stock in from outside. I thought I finally started to figure out mig-ing this thin box, but kept burning through. So annoying... So, I'm only showing the pretty weld(s). Ha ha. So stoked this is done! It will survive the next ice-age.

    Before:

I was able to weld about 1/6th of it at a time on my table until it just got too heavy an I had to do the rest on the floor, or eventually standing up.

    here's the pivot...

Finished I think. Not a super complex project... but a fun little welding project.

A little bit ago there was a tool debate between the steel chop saws, plasma cutter, and other options such as portaband with a swag offroad table. I was unable to completely read it all and follow it but already having an evo chop saw my attention was re-perked on the portaband enough to find a good deal and pull the trigger. Put swag table together and made a couple cuts. First thought was love making a cut with two hands still on material. I also feel this setup will be ideal for smaller things like making end caps on tubing. I have a solid 3/8 table top as my weld table, and seeing the swag table online with bent steel feet I knew I wanted to put some rubber anti skid feet on the bent portion predrilled. Finally in hand I was trying to think up a solution I could run out and get, turns out I thought to use some rubber wire grommets I had laying around. A little fight to fit them but actually worked out perfectly. Not sure if anti skid feet were ever discussed but thought my personal solution could help out anyone else looking to do the same..

Thanks for the tip. By the time I read your reply I had already welded them onto the tranny plate, but I knocked off the tack welds on the transfer case skid and repositioned them per your suggestion. I ended up adding some more angle to the tranny skid positioned in the L shape, and will put a couple short pieces of 3/16" bar stock positioned vertically to connect them across the middle, so it should be pretty stout. I've only got about a credit card's width of clearance between the plate and bottom of the exhaust pipe at the back right side of the plate, so I'm hoping the additional bracing will help keep the plate from bending (much). I'll upload pics once I finish welding everything up, would have been done last night but ran out of wire! If everything goes according to plan, I'll have them painted tomorrow and installed Friday in time to do some wheeling Saturday.

Here's the tranny skid with the additional angle iron, sans 3/16" bar stock
Here's the t-case skid with the repositioned gussets as well as the supports added to connect to the Mobtown rock sliders. (In case you're wondering, I bought a welding cart to get the welder off my planer!)

Yes you can. I switch to argon using my same regulator when I use the spool gun.

Left work early to stop by Air Gas to grab a can of bi-mix.

    Sticker shock!...

    In a good way.

Since I was wearing my work clothes they gave my my company's discount. I didn't bother correcting them. Being masked up and all I figured it was the responsible thing to keep mouth shut and not spread germs.

$38 to swap out cans. I couldn't pay fast enough!

When I bought my first mig and had the bottle swapped for the first time I couldn't believe how much it was at Machine and Welding Supply. Was talking with a friend who works on welders for a living and also used to work there and he said let me see if I can help you. Next time I went it was less than half of what I paid the first time. One time the guy said out loud "oh I see you're a gold member". Apparently they have different tiers, I don't know.

In 2018 I paid $93 for the same bottle.

Yes, there are several tiers for billing prices.....

Or they pull the price out of someone's ass...

I can see this happening. I swear I pay a different price every time I go to get my CO2 bottle filled up. It's only by a few dollars in either direction but still.

I have started writing the date and price I paid on my tanks.

Not a bad idea but if you need gas you’re gonna pay either way. For me, it’s best to not keep track and just pay the man.

It's mostly so I can gauge how long I go on a tank.

I just paid 115 with the hazmat fees and all the other air gas fees... shows the mark up and on top of that I’m pretty sure he gave me the wrong size bottle and they wouldn’t fix it. I was pretty pissed

I know my local AirGas has a student discount. One guy that works there always asks me how my class is going. ;)
He said it’s dumb they have to do that but it keeps business coming in the door and they have no problem adding the discount for regular customers.
