Agreed. I’ll turn down jobs that aren’t worth my time for the money. I don’t mind taking the time for my own projects but for others, no thanks.

Is replacing it with copper out of the question?
Galvanized is really a terrible material for water. I bet if you take it apart you'll see a very small channel left for the water in all the rust and corrosion.

Should be fine as a temporary solution - but I'd plan to replace the line relatively soon.

Same. I loved working on cars, it became a full time job and 8 years later I started pursuing an engineering degree. Hopefully for my 30th birthday I’ll have my associates :fingerscrossed:

Exactly what I would hope for. I wouldn’t even push anything, just learn, get confident, and if others need/want help or such like, I’d never turn down some dollars haha

After tearing out the pipe insulation it’s actually pvc. Kind of bummed because I have no fittings on hand. Will have to deal with a leak until tomorrow.

how bad is the leak? can you use a wrap on it? something like a thin metal ( a soda can?) some rubber tape over that would help too.

Not the worst, but definitely couldn’t stay this way. Luckily we have a booster pump and decent sized tank so I’ll pressurize it and kill it at the bottom until 7am when Home Depot opens.

I got it painted and installed today. The bed mat hiding the lower plate really makes for a clean finished product.

Yeah, by itself it wouldn’t work, post was semi tongue in cheek.

though it with a supporting overwrap of flashing or other thin metal and hose clamps ought to effect a temporary fix.

Nope, that’s just the tent and the cover. It seems angled because the tent closes like a V, plus the cover is a little crooked. It’s a weird optical illusion.

edit: here’s a pic from another angle that makes it look a bit straighter.

A07F1830-B826-4AFD-BF4B-688438F677A8.jpg Was able to get it decent enough to pressurize our tank. Will rip it all out tomorrow. Bunch of raggedy shit in a raggedy pump house done by raggedy people haha.

Any time I’ve seen brass, steel and pvc fittings one after another it usually doesn’t end well haha. Last house had galvanized, copper, cpvc, pvc and pex all “working” together. It alllll came out. Took longer to remove the galvanized than plumb the whole house.
