Yep have a few like that myself.

I have also found some.of the 5/8 hex head bolts have been useful as stops.

Clever on the bolts. Any reason for 5/8 vs M16 other than availability/ cost?

    A thing or two...
    They're essentially the same like 3/4" and 19mm. 16mm is 0.630".

Yeah, 5/8 is 15.875mm. Close to 16mm. 0.625” vs 0.630”. Very close. Still a little bit of wiggle tho, thus the question. Guess I’m curious how much he’s found it really matters.

I made a couple specifically for holding round tube by welding a small section of 1/2” angle iron to the pivoting pad. Simple solution but it holds 3/4”-4” tube without slipping off. Just don’t use too much heat or you’ll warp the pivoting socket and it’ll never work right afterwards.

Looks like just what an average guy like me needs. I have one of the HF ones and I am going to use it mostly for plasma cutting since it has the long slotted cutouts for clamps. Those will be good openings for cutting straight plasma passes.

I ordered one yesterday. But, I ended up ordering on Amazon. I got so pi$$ed dealing with Northerns website, I gave up. It's still supplied by Northern, just through Amazon. Reg price on Amazon is $179, plus $42.00 shipping. Not eligible for Prime.

    Website debacle:

First, it says you can order to be delivered to store (no shipping cost and Keycode discount eligible) "if you live within 800 miles of a store". I live 200 miles, but easy interstate straight shot there. Rejected, even though "In Stock" req was met. So, that means no Keycode -$20.00, no free shipping. I called and they said "oh yeah, that's a misprint. You have to be within 100 miles or less". Uh, how about you update the website.

So, I decide to go ahead and order one anyway. Credit card rejected. I call my credit card company, they say, "purchase was approved on our end, but it shows Northern is billing you $0.00". Tried another credit card...rinse and repeat.

I could have driven there for about $10 less than the Amazon shipping cost and paid the same $179.00, but I knew I'd end up spending another $$$?, so I resisted the urge.

wow, sounds frustrating. Haven’t ever ordered anything shipped from Northern tool, I have a store a few miles away.

FYI if you want to add casters instead of feet, the threads are M10.

Definitely want to add them. Thanks for the info. I was thinking 4-5" just for the easy rolling. Did you pick some out yet?

I already had some 3 inch casters which fit, so that’s what I used. Works fine for now.

Haven’t decided if I might redo the table frame at some point in the future, so I’ll use what I have for the time being

I just hope that those approved charges my credit companies said that showed Northern was billing for "$0.00" don't change at some point. I could end up in the same situation as you did.

Both credit card companies said the purchases were approved, but Northern's website each time said the cards were rejected/no sale.

Credit cards have tons more protections than PayPal. If it should happen that you do get a charge, disputing it is pretty easy. Just keep an eye on your statements, which anyone ought to be doing already.

gotcha. The equipment on your jobs looked a ton like steam plants we have. I’ve been reaching out to a lot of the weldporn page hosts and podcast guys trying to find guys with Instagram pages that do alloy conductor work, but it’s a pretty niche market so I still haven’t found anyone who’s brain I can pick to gain some more knowledge.

It’s amazing how much of a difference the right tools make. I got to use my new chop saw, band saw and tube notcher for this project and it only took about 40 minutes. I made it to mount beadlocks at home. A lot of people just rest the wheels on a 5 gallon bucket but this will make life a bit easier having it bolted down.

How are you liking the portable bandsaw? Trying to decide between a dewalt portable or the HF horizontal one. How long does it take to make a typical cut with the portable? And how difficult is it to make a precise cut with it?

I have both since I pulled the Porta band off my welding Rig years ago I used it one time.

What would be your typical cut 2" stainless bar stock ? What does precise mean to you + or -.025" or 3/16"

Square cuts with a Porta Band do take some practice having the right blade for the material helps

The Horizontal bandsaw is my go to for cutting anything I can fit into it

It depends do you need a Band Saw to take here and there or not?? What will fit your needs the best?
