I don’t fuck with anti-spatter either. I have some spray to put on stuff if I’m worried about spatter sticking to it (haven’t needed it yet), but otherwise spatter isn’t much of an issue. I could see it being used in heavy production scenarios, but I’m not trying to introduce anymore chemicals into my welds or my lungs.

I don’t have issues with splatter but I do use the stuff from air gas or some cheap stuff from Amazon I’ve had forever when Welding on my new table to keep myself from grinding low spots in it. I’ll use it when welding other things if I remember lol. Doesn’t make a huge difference though

220v welder with solid core with 75/25 gas. Trying to avoid clean up time as much as possible. That's all.

There should be little to no spatter that doesn't rub off with your glove.

Are you sure you are getting good gas deposition?

Something as simple as the cone O-ring can introduce atmospheric air into the weld zone and play hell with your weld .

Anti spatter is more for finished products being sold to help keep costs down.

It has been years since I used any not having done welding for production that needed to look fancy .

I have seen counter people push it as a must have to newbies

If I get into some serious welding like rebuilding buckets I might use Nozzle dip if I remember

Does that YES welding hood allow the use of magnifying lenses?

I have a buddy that needs cheaters for seeing up close and wants to get into welding, but can't see shit since he can't see close.

Q&A on this one says a 2x4.25 cheater lens fits. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M5WKCYX?th=1

Put a 1.5x in my HF blue sticker helmet and it’s great. My distance vision is fine but close vision has suffered since I hit my 50s. Youse younguns enjoy it while it lasts. Lol.

    Lol.

The only time I'm thankful for astigmatism. Can't see shit in the distance, but up close has not changed at all now that I'm in my 50s.

I have that Milwaukee, it’s a beast, but $100 it isn’t cheap- I have a $40 Bosch that’s 20 years old and still going strong

    How much?

18 years ago I paid $1100 for my 30A. I honestly think it's kind of chintzy. Never was impressed with the quality.

$350ish, then the bottle of argon and a bunch of consumables specific to aluminum

Yeah, it’s definitely entry level, only option for a Millermatic 180. I work in a lot with a fabricator in the warehouse next door so if I need to go thicker than 1/4” aluminum in a single pass I’ll hit them up. Can’t see a need now and couldn’t justify $2500 for a new machine and a better spool gun

I think as for Spoolguns the 30A is the best one out there of all I have used and worked on.

Though if you have that much aluminum work to justify going to a aluma pro or python set up foolish not to .

I got mine for $40 in the clearance section at my local home depot. In fact Ive picked up so many good tool deals in that section I can't go to home depot without checking it.

i picked up one of these hoods over Christmas, my goodness its a night and day difference! I was using the usual small window cheap auto darkening hood, and upgrading to this.... its like im welding without a hood on its that clear. such a wide field of view too!

I know im preaching to the choir.

    enjoy your Sunday

Would anyone happen to know if I should swap out this plug (Miller thunderbolt 225, style No JA-49) or should I swap out the outlet (assuming an old dryer outlet)? Or am I wrong completely

Its the 1st thing I do. I even get rid of the stupid, rigid power cord. As long as I use 10 gauge, there is no issue.

Are you still planning on using the outlet for a dryer or other appliance? I use my dryer receptacle for my welder extension cord, so I changed the plug on the extension cord to match the dryer. If you don't plan on using that receptacle for anything else, it's your choice at that point.

unfortunately I put the multimeter to it and it’s only 120v. On the bright side it’s not used anymore. So I think if possible I’ll have to bump those numbers up a bit somehow, maybe a bigger breaker? I’ll have to look into it

Up to you. Welder plug is NEMA 6-50. May be worth replacing the cord and plug with SOOW cable in 10ga.

Wall socket, I’d either convert it to 6-50 if you’ll dedicate it to welder or keep it as-is if you expect to keep using it for whatever is in place. It’s NEMA 10-30 I believe
