    Hi,

    Vehicle: 2017, Tacoma

Thanks to some great support from the Anytime Backup Camera folks I now have it installed and it appears to work perfectly, except...

When I select the Forward position on the switch both the Front and Rear amber switch lights are illuminated. (Head unit displays front camera.)

When I select the Rear position on the switch only the Rear amber switch light is illuminated. (Head unit displays rear camera.)

For those that have Anytime Backup Camera with a front camera, does this match up with what happens for you?

The Anytime folks say this is normal operation. Just wanted to double-check.

    Thanks so much.

Mine does that too but I never thought it was weird because it does what it's supposed to do, displaying what I chose

It does that because the whole system is designed to supply a signal to the HU when in reverse...except the truck isn't actually in reverse, the ABC harness just powers the line the HU recognizes as "hey, we're in reverse now. Imma display the camera". Combine this with the relay: unpowered, the relay just lets in the reverse camera feed. Powered, it switches to the front camera. No matter which camera you select, a signal is supplied on the orange wire which is what goes to the HU. I guess the PCB for the switch internals just wasn't designed to distinguish between "trick HU into thinking we're in reverse, show me rear camera" and "trick HU into thinking we're in reverse, show me front camera". I think it just routes the front selection through the same entire circuit as the rear, hence why both lights illuminate.

Kinda annoying, but doesn't affect use.

My front camera when switched on the front position stays on in park, drive and reverse. Isn’t the reverse cam supposed to come in reverse no mater what position the switch is in?

    No, the switch will override.

It should go to the rear when the switch is off. But I believe that if the front set that overrides. I have to to experiment with mine

Yea with the switch in the off position the camera goes on in reverse, & The reverse position stays on all the time in any gear just like front cam switch. I was thinking that the front cam should switch to the reverse camera in reverse.
My non problem is solved I just need to switch off the front camera when backing up.

I took apart the switch to see how it worked and was able to come up with a modification to get each LED to work independently. You need to cut a trace on the PCB and solder in a diode.

Here's my instructions on how to do it: https://timee1994.weebly.com/anytime-camera-switch.html

    End Result:

Good job. This always bothered me when both lights were lit. I will be in for one. Simple as easy as wrapping out the switches.

Just installed this switch. Works great. Anybody with a little OCD will want this switch. I know it wasn’t a big thing having both front and rear indicators lit at the same time but yet it bothered me. Now everything is perfect. This switch should replace the switch that comes in the kit.

The way it should have been from the beginning. You can tell they didn’t spend the time to actually make it work the way intended. Anyways.
I’m having issues with mine. I think it’s the connection at the switch. Sometimes the picture is not clear and or the colors are off.

Also when I have needed it the most (when off-road) the signal is lost and it displays a black screen. It only seems to do it when I’m off-road for some reason because I have turned it on in the highway and it functions fine. That gets me confused all the time. Or maybe it overheats or something.

Did you tape the RCA? I had the same problems until I went back and taped the connections

At the camera end correct?? I already went and looked at the connection a few months ago but I don’t remember if I taped it. I’ll have to double check. Im wondering in what way the tape helped, I remember the connection being nice and firm.

pretty sure that RCA connectors are for indoor use.
Maybe the tape helps prevent a moisture issue and stabilizes the connection too?
I was thinking of using heat shrink but that’d be a pita to undo.
