    Anyone know what diode is in this wire harness? Mine has been on the fritz (won't work sometimes when in reverse), removed the shrink cover over the diode after diagnosing it as the issue. Clean break right through the middle, so need to replace it. They have one on their website that says 540 MIC, but it's not clear if it is a replacement for this or for other things (it mentions usage for using 2 switches as one application though).

    What does your diode say, if anything?

    Are you able to snap a picture of it and give a description of where it is located? I have looked on their website but can't see where they have it located.

    Do you have the front and rear setup or just the rear?

    I would say you need that diode then. From reading, the diode is just to prevent the tail lights from turning on when enabling the camera.

    Also, I'd consider a different circuit. Diodes on their own are not really designed to be used used in this manor. They can't "hold back power forever" which is basically what you asking it to do when you drive with backup cam overide on for any period of time. ie reverse biased.

    Few points (I am by no means an electrical expert, just some basic knowledge):-
    If I pulled the right spec sheet, the MIC 540 only has a reverse current of 0.5ma, which is not enough for this application.
    Diodes configured in reverse bias should also have a resistor to limit current and there for breakdown.
    A Zener diode may be a better option for this, but still not perfect.

    Different switch setup as described in my reply (the link above) would be a far better solution, if you can't find a double throw on/on switch that fits where you want it to go, then a relay would also work with any single throw switch.
