Its plenty fast enough for a 16 year old.

Focus on the stereo, go nuts with that. You'll be broke but at least you'll be alive.

Then once the Ram brakes down on ya. Back the Toyota off the trailer and continue driving.

I also wanted more omph for my 2nd gen. 2.5L 5 speed. First I got the Pedal Commander, not really impressed. Then I broke the wallet and changed the truck's 3.31 gears to 4.30. At lower speeds there seems to be a huge difference in pick up power. At higher speeds - highway, it seems to have less but it can be on cruise control now and not bog out on every hill. Before on the highway doing 60+ if I wanted to pass I'd drop down 2 gears to 3rd and floor it. Don't need to drop gears for acceleration now.
I'm one of those bought it for the looks people, so it had to be leveled - (can't lift a 5 lug) and get some 31/10.5/15 tires.
Before it wasn't happy above 1st gear at parking lot speeds, now it can almost be in 3rd gear at same speed. Before 5th gear was pretty much irrelevant unless going 50 plus. Now I can be going along happily in residential areas at 40 in 5th gear.
So, basically a re gear will improve 2.7l driving experience in my opinion.

Ah yes.. the trunk was so large that a full keg rolling from one side to the other could make a helluva dent.

I would think you'd want to regear the front end gears too, wouldn't you?

Honestly, driving 90 in this truck, or any truck for that matter, is not really safe. Find different roads to your destination.
You're burning at least 50% more fuel at 90 mph vs 55.
Driving slow is a luxury and a pleasure. Even moreso in a truck.
As far as performance goes, the only recommendation I have is an LCE header, but that won't help top speed.

I was thinking the same thing, most times, people doing 90mph arrive at the same time as those of us doing the speed limit. My buddy drives like a bat outta hell, but stops for hour long lunches in between. Never figured it out.

    It's a secret
I didn't read the rest of the comments after #12...and it's still only Thursday...so I have no idea if it was mentioned already or not...but here are my recommendations to "go faster" on a 4-banger Taco:

    1) Install one of each on the rear lower right of tailgate an "SRT", "Si", "Type-R", "Quattro" CHROME emblems in that precise order.

    2) Iinstall tripple-OVAL front quarter panel vent holes to both left and right quarter panels.

    3) Adjust your drivers seat-back support to lean at a minimum of 48.3° back. The object is to barely see the roof of any other vehicle in front of you above the top of your knuckles when holding the steering wheel at the 12 o'clock potition.

Keepin' up? Hell.. let them arrive earlier so they can find the speed traps. :D My guess is you'll be better regarded if you keep your license and admit what you drive.. a stylish and capable midsize truck that isn't made for speed.

I can certainly see why you needed a regear with a 3.31 rear diff. and why it helped, good move.
Third gen 2.7L 6 speed automatic rear diff is already a 4.30 and I’ve no need to regear (basically stock, lighter weight Access cab, no larger tires or added heavy weight). The only thing i do is use the ECT to hold the gears longer starting from low speeds around town and rural roads at 45mph. Does the job.

Dang that must be it. Went out and measured my seat and it was off a few degrees. It’s much faster now.

Go fast products, been there... now, I just buy something that meets my needs and if it's more power you want then, buy something with just that, more power...

My favorite (NOT) is when the highway has been warning of a lane closure for miles and then at the last 500' you get those that jump out of line, zoom ahead and Expect someone to let them in all the while giving the look of lost sheep...

Lol! Every single time. Coming back yesterday, just absolutely nutty, the amount of assjackery driving never ceases to amaze me, thankfully there are a couple spots where I can get off and take surface streets.

Yep, save the speed needs for the dirt. About the only person I am going to hurt is myself. Even slowed down in the dirt, cause I want to be continue doing this thing for a long time.

    Check build thread!
You’ve put ideas into my head, this would be a really fun swap if someone finds a wrecked 2/3gen.

Ahhh the fun days of driving around on your couch with an underpowered V8 and a 3 speed auto... when gas was cheap and you could fit 5 in the front seat.
