ive read something like that but I think they are pretty leak proof and solid units when installed/used correctly, if your stealth OCIing attaching a 10 cent length of hose to the nipple stick the hose into an old milk jug open valve without mess or making too much attention to what ur doing would be a worthwhile investment

No leaking for me in over 6 years. My only concern was it catching on something like a rock or similar on the trail. I installed the RCI aluminum skid plate and it sits up quite a bit now. No worries.

Edit: I DO keep the original oil plug in the glove box just in case I need to remove the Fumoto for some reason.

Sounds like a dream. Wish there was something that could be done about that darn oil filter though (3.4).

You could install a hose on the nipple of the oil filter drain catch and lead it to the oil catch pan.

No issues with Fumoto's on 3 different vehicles over a number of years. Any valve could eventually leak but the convenience is worth the small risk IMO.

There are oil filter conversion kits to spin on and relocation kits that some people have been using with success. I wouldn't do it unless your vehicle is out of warranty and you change your oil very often

jup, now you got a problem, especially stealth OCIing I had the 3.4l not easy to do but not impossible if you set yourself up right, I like the WALMART lot idea find a secluded corner rear end in then hide behind the drivers side while getting the filter off thru the drivers side wheel well, also if you do this sort of thing make sure your mess is thoroughly cleaned up with not leaving any trash behind and you can reuse the spot again without drawing anyones attention

You could use one of these places, but it seems to get really expensive. You would be better off going to an oil shop and insist on being under the car with them. ;-)

I think the best idea so far is doing a bucket/catch can at an auto store. Easy to keep the supplies in your truck and get rid of the oil on the spot.

might be a good idea, I notice at my WALMART/super center they have Rent-a-Cop security patrols who could easily catch you doing your oil change, in the parking lot, its tough to do unless you could find a spot out in the wilderness/woods where theres no one around to bother you, then again you will really need to do a thorough cleanup afterwards leaving nothing at all behind or you'll get busted for sure

+3 for the fumoto valve, especially if you have skids. Skids make it harder to get to the drain plug, and I spilled oil on the top of the skid before installing the fumoto. Now I just hook some tubing to it, and run right into the oil catcher, no muss no fuss.

I have one on the oil filter cover as well. If you want to go really crazy, Jowett Performance makes a billet filter cover to replace the OEM plastic one and sells the drain valve as well. Not quite as crazy, there are some other Toyota and Lexus models that use a metal filter cover that is a direct replacement for the OEM taco cover.
