For the most part. I took the southern overland route in because we showed up around 5 and wanted to try to beat the darkness. Then we camped on Arroyo Secco Del Diablo Trail, there were only a few camping spots available but we were able to grab the last spot. Then we looped to Arroyo Tapiado and explored all along the way and then we ended up taking Canyon Sin Nombre as @Jaque8 Recommended on the way out. Canyon Sin Nombre is definitely a more scenic, and in my opinion, easier trail than the southern overland route. the southern overland route gets pretty sandy and winds alot so you cant really maintain speed, I never had to throw it in 4x4 but i also went right after a pretty wet season.

No I don't. I use google maps, I download whatever I need and convert it to KML format to use for google maps. What kind of format does Gaia use?

You can download the track as KML, GPX, or GeoJSON through Gaia.

Dang, I've been meaning to get out to Anza... I was actually going to try and hit it up on my way back from Chella 2 weeks ago

Would you mind sharing your route with me too?! Looks like a stock height offroad 4x4 should be able to navigate these trails well enough, yeah?

    Thanks man!

So I did this very exact route this weekend. Thank you @Jaque8 for the recommendations.

I planned the land marks via google earth to confirm its viability, then just used my gaia app on my tablet to create the route. It was super simple. Used the geography from google earth as a reference, went to the gaia app and made the waypoints and it automatically created the route for me.

The route is very 2wd friend except for 1 caveat, Diablo's Drop Off.

It's the only link from what I saw to Fish Creek from the south part of the part to the north, and it was beyond rutted out. Some of the holes and articulation needed long travel , 35's, and a high clearance rear bumper. I perceived it to be too risky in a mid travel truck and 31's, especially as a solo traveler.

I would reckon that heading up Diablo drop off would require 3 jeeps, 40's, and winching. The sand/gravel was so soft that I could barely hold my footing as I walked the section beforehand.

I came out the way I came in via Sin Nombre Canyon, and I took the highway North to Octotillo Wells and entered Anzo via Split Mountain road and continued the route from the north.

I camped via Fish Creek North Fork and it was very quiet. Not a single other traveler on that section.

My favorite was Sand Canyon. Absolutley stunning. I excited back via Split mountain road through Ocotillo Wells and am currently having a slice of pie in Julian.

Again, the vast majority, 98% of the route is very 2wd friendly. I saw quite a number of crossover SUV's, a couple minivans, and a few Honda Civic's on this route. A stock tacoma is no problem.

One of the best mods I did before this trip was replace the radiator mount bushing. Got rid of so much rattling that came into the cab from the washboard roads.

No, Diablo is very doable going up. 4x4 is required but it's definitely doable. Air down and lots of skinny pedal.

You could reverse the route, go down Diablo, and do it 2wd with no issues.
