Has anyone tried the Apex Overland recovery points? They seem to have a smilar design to the ARB but $100 less for a pair of them (driver + passenger side) as opposed to the single ARB point. I know the ARB is considered the best but over $300 is a little ridiculous. It looks like the Apex mounts to the sway bar bolts... I'm not sure if that would hold up the same as the ARB but it must be a lot better than the factory crossmember hook right?

ARB designed their bumpers and recovery points to work with the crash engineered systems of the vehicles. No USA company does that at this time.
For $300, the trust in ARB is worth it.

You looking at them for your 4Runner or FJ? I don’t see any compatible with tacomas on their site.

ARB is only $100 more……and it’s a PROVEN rock solid part. The decision is an easy one.

They look plenty beefy, quality hardware and solid mounting, but I'm also not seeing Tacomas listed as compatible on their website. People act like the ARB is the only option, and I agree, $300 is a lot of money for something 99% of people will never use. If you do plan on using a recovery point a lot, ARB is well worth the money. It's either that, or spend the money on a proper bumper with recovery points, which is significantly more expensive.

If these were for the Tacoma, I'm sure they'd be fine. Personally, I'd just invest in some quality soft shackles and a kinetic rope, and plan on hooking up to the lower control arms or something similarly beefy underneath that has no chance of letting loose and turning into a projectile. Seems to be all Matt's Offroad Recovery needs for most of his recovery jobs on vehicles with no proper recovery point.

I got the ARB installed after using the tractor to pull chains from my LCA in the winter many times.

So much easier with the ARB
