Thanks! For now we’re just offering steel. It keeps the cost down, and for what it’s worth, it’s fairly light for how much functionality/weight it can tow.

Ah, I totally understand. Well it’s not for everyone and we knew that coming out of the gate. Maybe someday we will come out with a tucked in version!

Nice! Finally a bumper that incorporates the BSM sensors. Excellent work Apogee. I gotta say I'm kinda stoked but agree with the others that posted; would prefer the sides to be more flush.

OK, I understand your thought process, love the functionality. I would like to see it from more angles.

Coming from someone who hasn't taken my bumper apart yet (hopefully never), I don't know what the stock bracket material is. Looks like going with custom abs, you might have solved the vibrational problem that I believe was the cause for other people's bumpers causing the BSM to eventually go out of alignment. (plastic stock bumper absorbs more vibrations than steel aftermarket bumpers transferring all shocks to mounting hardware of bsm causing misalignment over time)

Hope you sorted it out, looking forward to it! (Just hope it matched astetically to other bumpers with hoops lol)

Will you eventually have a swing out option with spare tire holder, table, etc?

    Hi Teegs,

Were still in development with the swingout options, but look forward to a ton of functionality.

Killer! I'm actually okay with it sticking out a bit as long as it serves a purpose (like housing the BSM). Looking forward to seeing more of this though!

Hey guys! Love the BSM functionality and the bumper looks great! I saw earlier you mentioned exploring swing out options, would high clearance be an option you’d look into also? Not sure if it’d work with the BSM brackets

Since you guys are M.E.s according to your website, have you thought about attaching accelerometers to both a stock BSM mounted sensor, and a BSM sensor mounted to your bumper to see if the vibration frequencies and magnitudes are in the same relative range under different conditions (e.g., pavement, washboard, etc.)? If so, there shouldn't be any concern about longevity of the sensor over stock, especially if your bumper dampens shock to the sensor better than stock.

Have you also consulted the technical service manual (TSM) on calibration and orientation of the sensor to the vehicle's axis? Will there be a way to tweak the horizontal and vertical orientation of the sensor to bring it in line with parameters in the TSM?

One way to prove the sensors will work, could be a video showing the sensor is in calibration in Techstream immediately after mounting it to your bumper. That and comparison plots of filtered accerometer data between BSM sensors mounted to both stock and Apogee bumpers.

The sensors are a good idea. Should be pretty cheap. Don't have any actual experience gathering that information personally though.

Don't know about the calibration however. It either works or it doesn't. You don't know until you get an error code unfortunately... Classic garbage in garbage out scenario.

Were talking about a few degrees, that's a pretty hard target to hit without having detailed technical knowledge of the people who designed the system in the first place.

It would be important that the sensor yaw/roll angles and displacement relative to the longitudinal axis of the truck is the same or "close." But it's a dynamic system sitting on leaf springs, as long as the sensor stays roughly inside the original angular dynamic envelope it should be fine.

It's what's known as a phased array antenna, beam is steered electronically. It scans the environment in a raster fashion.

Honestly if you back your truck into the parking spot every time (and you should), and do shoulder checks, the BSM has pretty limited value. It would have much more value if it protected a truck-trailer combination but I don't think it does. I am thinking about just unplugging mine if it will not cause a persistent alarm on the dash.

BSM has no value while parking. It does on highways and backing out of spots but it’s value is subjective. My rear window is completely blocked and I have no BSM and manage fine.

Unplugging it will cause no alarms or lights, it just disabled itself.

It won't cause any alarms to unplug them.

Yes you're correct if you drive attentive and well all the technology has limited value. What's your point?

Different strokes for different folks. We all value things differently for different reasons. I also value heated seats, power steering, and windshield wipers, but some people don't think those are necessary. Chances are we aren't going to change each other's opinions on that.

If someone makes a BSM compatible bumper that works, for sure people will buy it. If you don't see value in a BSM compatible bumper, then why are you hanging out in a thread about it?

Thanks for regurgitating my point..and no where did I say there was no value.

I can also comment on whatever thread or post I want...2 posts is hardly hanging out.

You didn’t even understand my comment.
