I've read threads on other forums of people expressing interest in running Car Play over Entune. I only have one problem, I lack the skills necessary to pull this off. So I am putting the word out there to see if this is something some of you might be willing to tackle.

Here's what I know, Entune runs on a QNX operating system developed by Blackberry. Carplay is designed to use QNX to operate. An overlay of some sort. That makes me confident that it is possible to run Car Play over Entune. It's just a matter of code/programming.

Now I am not one to ask for help, and I continue to read and read and read some more to try and teach myself a little bit more about the system, how it's programmed and how it can be modified to handle something like Car Play.

My thoughts were to use USB drive to boot a copy of QNX running Car Play over Entune. It all seems so simple in my head, but then I start to think about the functionality of the buttons, knobs and even the touch screen inputs, and then I blow a fuse.

Progress? Negative. I have trouble operating door knobs, so this is like trying to put a round peg through a square hole for me. So I am reaching out to see if anyone has attempted to tackle this, willing to tackle this or support the discussion with valuable information.

    Cheers.

I'm generally a fan of apple software, but have never actually used Car Play.... is it materially better than Entune? I would grade Entune a "B".

i would say yes for sure. But this seems to me to come down to a matter of opinion/preference for most.

My main problem with Entune are the apps, which are close to worthless.

And the safety feature that locks commands while the truck is moving. I get it, it's safety, but it's annoying... I just end up pick up my phone and getting info there.

Lol, I agree, personally for me the UI for messaging and calls isn't as good as CarPlay. I have seen CarPlay in action and it is much smoother and more refined. But again thats my personal take.

Negative, lacking the QNX Developer Software. So I guess its worth asking if anyone has access to this software. I attempted to use a trial version with no luck.

Hey Onepremiere, I'm very interested in helping out with this. I'm a software engineer by education and trade, and I live in Hawaii where Entune is kneecapped into worthlessness. Let's do this. Can you send any research you've done so far so I can dig in?

I'm a 25+ year professional software engineer and I'm willing to help out too, but I want Android Auto support. I have written many real world industrial Android applications, so I'm hoping whatever is learned will help on both side of the fence. In any case, both technologies (Car Play and Android Auto) appear to be pretty thin layers because the high end HU's (Alpine, Pioneer, etc.) seem to support both. Also, I ran across this today at work and thought it was interesting. I'm not dogging iOS here, but Android really is crushing iOS at this point.

Possibly because dang near everyone that makes a phone other than apple uses android?

I'm in to follow the progression of this. Seems like there are some bright minds lined up and ready to tackle this. I'm definitely down for carplay but if goes in the direction of android I'll still be down to try it out as long as it's iPhone compatible.

OK, has anyone had success side loading the unit? What's it running? Linux? QNX?
