Are you just using an updated head unit or did you throw a sub, amp and new speakers in?

For about a week I just had an updated head unit but now have updated speakers in all doors and a powered sub. Really sounds nice.

I'm back and forth on the 4200 and 8200. I pretty sure I'm going with the 8200.

I installed a 4200 hundred and 2 months later Car Play stopped working. Actually, that USB port stopped working completely. The Amazon Vendor agreed to let me return the 4200, and I decided to upgrade to the 8200 which I installed last night.

My main reason was the capacitive screen. Not a huge deal, and I doubted it was worth that extra $357. Although I didn't think I needed the GPS with my iPhone almost always connected, I figured it could come in handy.

Now, after using both, I'm still on the fence. Since the 8200 is installed, I'm not going to return it and go back to a 4200. But, if it wasn't... it's a toss up. I def like the 8200s touch screen. A huge improvement. But then, how often am I actually using touch screen? Not much. It is interesting to see how much quicker the unit responds though with the new screen. The delay when adjusting the equalizer, for instance, is not nearly as long on the 8200.

The GPS is nice. I like it better than Car Play Apple maps. I REALLY like how everything is integrated. So when I'm on the GPS screen, I still see my music info on a banner along the bottom of the window. And, when I'm on the music screen, I still see the GPS instructions the say way. I didn't expect that, and it's way cool.

The GPS program has an upgrade available for traffic: HD Traffic. Honestly, I don't know what the hell this is or what it would add over the built in traffic (picked up over an FM station). Anyone know? I installed the companion APP on my phone, but am not impressed so far. I prob need more time to see how the two work together.

One thing I swear I read, is you could send a destination from your iPHone. So I thought I could use SIRI to tell the 8200 GPS to go somewhere. So far, I haven't been able to do that. I hope it's possible.

My guess is that I'll like this deck more and more. Maybe in 3 weeks I'll there is no way I'd reconsider the 4200. But right now, it's 50/50. The 4200 is an amazing deck and really, the only diff is the GPS and the touchscreen.

I'm still getting use to my pioneer 8200 which I really like. It's just going to take sometime till you use it more.

Is AirPlay not a thing on these head units?

Has Airplay has ever been a thing for decks? But no on these. You have Bluetooth, Car Play, USB, or RCA Cable options available. Can't imagine I'd ever use Airplay even if it was an option. Bluetooth is the wireless option.

I don't air play often on my Apple TV but Bluetooth may have to be enabled for that anyway. Could be wrong. And yes AirPlay would be dangerous in a car. However, that said, for every restriction pit into radios there has always been someone figure out how to bypass it. There is a kit to mirror an iPhone for the etune OEM units I bel wove but it's wired connection only if I'm not mistaken.

Wireless CarPlay is coming. Sony's upcoming unit is supposed to have it. It's not AirPlay; it's CarPlay except you don't have to plug in your phone, which works out to the same thing plus more.

Question for those of you with CarPlay: Can you use your phone normally with CarPlay active? For instance, could I use Waze on my phone while playing music through CarPlay?

Yes your music will go uninterrupted when your phone sleeps and you can unlock your phone and use it normally.
