Good point. Too bad I'm out of warranty period. I'll have to try it with wifey's phone.

I have not experienced that. Do you have a case on the phone and if so how thick is it? I've heard that thick cases produce enough distance between the components that charging is difficult, so I could see that causing overheating if it's trying too hard to compensate...

(I did get flashing LEDs on the charger right after turning it one once when I had an iPhone 7 sitting on top of an iPhone 8 sitting on the charger...)

I have an extremely thin plastic case. I'll try it without but if I have to remove it every time I'll just plug it in.

I had this happen to me once so far this weekend. I was on a road trip, and had the phone (Samsung S7 in Ringke slimline case) on the Qi charger with the screen on and Google Maps running. The charge rate was just enough to keep the battery charge level essentially constant. After about a hour or so, the Qi charger started chiming sporadically. The first few times I heard the chime, I didn't know where it was coming from. After about another 10 minutes, the chime was going off constantly and the light on the Qi charger was alternating between amber and green. At that point, I took the phone off the charger and it was quite warm to the touch, but not any worse than charging the phone with a cable while it laying in direct sunlight. The charge level was around 55%, so the chime/lights were not due to the phone being fully charged.

I let the phone cool down for a little bit and then put it on the Qi charger again with the screen off and it was fine for the rest of the trip.

I think if I were to do this again, I would take the phone out of the case so that it can dissipate heat faster, or just use the cable. If I was using the phone simultaneously as a hotspot, nav aid and music player, the Qi charger probably wouldn't be able to keep up anyway. I'll have to try it out on the next road trip though, and see what happens.

My iPhone 8+ works fine. It needs to be positioned with the home button facing the driver side, with the phone ALL the way to the right rear of the charging pad. I've been using it for almost 6 months with no issues.

That's weird. Mine has never chimed, just both LEDs flashing. When I looked it up in the manual it didn't say anything about a chime.

I have a iPhone 8 with a tech21 case. I use my '17 Sport QI charger regularly on the road, and a Belkin BoostUP Charging Pad at home without any issues!

I use mine all the time, unless I need a quicker charge, then it gets plugged in.

I’ve had mine on the Qi pad on numerous three hour trips and nothing has caught on fire, not even once.

It could have been the phone beeping. Difficult to say where the noise was coming from.

I use mine consistently as well with an iPhone 8+

No issues, and it charges fast enough considering I’m not exactly using my phone heavily while driving. I do consistently pull it out to change music since I usually listen to Spotify.

No issue with the iPhone 8. Prior to my 8, my iPhone 6 with a QI phone cover worked perfect also.
