Currently ranked 9th of 37 qualified to take the oral board for Casper, WY. 180 applied.

    I feel very confident.

Next step is schedule the oral board...this will count for 60%, and my written scores count for 40%. Combined I must average 75%. My written score was 91.

We will see how Cheyenne goes come the 16th/17th.

Good luck. How many openings do they have?

If they have more than 4 or 5 and you're ranked 9, you should be good. They always lose a few to the background/polygraph and/or the psych. (assuming they do those there)

They have about 5-6 positions open, still have to the oral board and yes they do do all the normal background, polygraph, psych and a complete physical.

You should be good to go then- at least one of the 8 above you will bomb the oral board, and at least 1 or 2 will fail the poly, nother 1 or 2 will fail the pysch. You'll be at the top of the list before ya know it.

On the poly and psych, if you fail, do net fret. I have failed and passed both. I dont think I know any cops who took polys and pyschs at multiple agencies and didn't fail one. They are very subjective, and failing one-or several- doesn't mean anything.

Unless of course you really are a crazy liar...

    Alrighty, update time:

Oral board went very well this morning. Answered all the questions as best as I could and then was escorted out to the hiring sergeant's office. We chatted for a bit and he said lemme go see if I can get some good news for you. I was like....ok....the nervousness could probably be felt in the little room. He comes back and sticks his hand out, you did absolutely great. 81.25. I said thanks! He sat down, calculated a few numbers, gave me my overall score of 82.15 and said........

You rank 5th.....and we have 5 slots open for the academy we are hiring for.

    :yay:

That part is still up in the air...I am in an academy but this is an out of state agency, which the state pays for the officers to go through an academy.

On that note though, the academy I am in will give me a cert that is able to cross over...and possibly I may be able to use my federal training as well to cross over.

Well, things have kinda turned around...I found out I passed finals, which means I'm registered for the second semester of the police academy I am in.

As a vet using the GI Bill, if I drop classes after the drop date, I accrue indebtedness to the VA, not something I wanna do when they are paying 10 g's for me to be here and 1100 bucks a month of tax free BAH on top of that to simply live. Casper wants to hire on April 9th, for an academy start date of April 13th and the drop date for my classes is Jan 20th.

To prevent being in debt to the VA, and to continue with my current academy obligation, I've decided to drop out of the hiring process. I have notified Casper of this via voicemail, but have yet to receive a call back.

On a side note, I have 5 vet preference points...WY will not accept those unless I am WY resident. I am not in full agreement with that policy, and I will not quit school to move to WY to get those points accepted either.

Luckily, the CSP opens for apps on the 16th. And the CSP is dream job of mine. They are looking for a full class for an Aug academy.
