novice fluid film question for those that have used it for awhile

when spraying the inside of frame will it tend to accumulate and 'gunk' up (an unpleasantly sticky or messy substance) after winter driving
around the drain holes and possibly block them on the bottom from proper drainage?

As far as paint goes, Valspar Anti-Rust armor is what we use at work. Works great and is easy to apply.

I've been having Corrosion Free applied to my truck here in VT for a couple years and so far good results. I brought the truck here from AZ and looking to keep it rust free

how can you tell if the FF is still protecting or needs to be reapplied?
i drizzled it on in this section about a month ago and have run it through about 7 undercarriage washes so far
it has not yet seen any winter slop since have not had much more than flurries so far
some of it looks ok still but some parts seem iffy and i really don't know, cannot really tell if there is flash rust going on or if the zinc phosphate coating is holding up still in spots

X2 - Car washes using recycled water is the reason I haven't been to one in years and only use my garden hose to wash it.

found this here from another products (Corrosion Free) review...

    Eddie – November 16, 2019

Works well. I have a 2017 Ford F-150 that I used this product on twice so far. I put it in and on the frame heavy and covered the complete undercarriage and truck looks like it just came from the showroom after 2 New England winters. Even the driveshaft, which is raw steel shows no signs of aging. I have used Fluid Film prior to finding this product and would never go back. This product is odorless and doesn’t swell non oil resistant rubber as Fluid Film does. Great product, highly recommended

    https://corrosionfree.com/store/rust-cure-formula-3000-jug/

    odorless is a +

but what does it mean that FF swells rubber that is non oil resistant :notsure:

Once you apply fluid film you do not wash the underside unless you want to reapply it. Just spray it and leave it alone. WoolWax is thicker and stickier and will stay put longer but you still need to reapply yearly.

i have routinely power hosed and rinsed out my wheel wells, doorjams, tailgate, suspension, top of fuel tank area as best i could, etc etc, routinely for 1/4 century (25 years!)
its probably the best reason my truck is in the condition it is in with no FF that i have no clue about never heard of it
and will have to see what happens when i get back onto the routine of winter washing

but this is what that stuff is currently doing to my rubber undercoat i damaged on the floorpan on driver side after 3 weeks of application to cover a few naked spots
what is going on with this stuff and what kind of a rats nest of a mess am i going to be finding myself in with this :notsure:

Rubber undercoating is garbage. Once it starts to peel it will trap moisture and salt against the metal where it will make rust worse. I have a 2wd first gen that was factory undercoated because of the recall before i bought it. The first few years i owned it i washed it constantly during salty winter months. About half of that crappy rubber undercoating got blasted off the frame. I need to take a scraper and scrape it all off but im just to lazy to do it.

I just started using fluid film/woolwax this year. My plan is to coat them right before they start salting roads and not wash the underside. If you wash the underside your just spraying the protective layer of fluid film off your undercarriage and it will do no good at all. Once spring gets here i will look at the underside and see if i should give it a wash or just let it go. I know dirt is going to build up and it will need cleaned i just have not got that far with it yet.

After owning many jeeps CJ's specifically and loosing them to rust the only areas that were rust free was the transmission tunnel that was coated in oil and dirt that turned into a greasy black tar that nothing could penetrate. I kind of want to do that to the entire underside of the 4runner and 2 tacos. Yeah it looks like shit but at least i will still have a frame and floor pans 10 years from now.

Forgot to mention that i use bar and chain oil inside my frame using a woolwax pro spray gun and a 32" 360* fluid film wand.

the rubber undercoating on floorpans and under the bed so far has done a good job of not rotting and/or perforating anything. but it is quite old and brittle and needs something done before I can take it out on the salty slushy streets!
so far i have not noticed ANY peeling of it in 22.5 years but i rarely look that far underneath until recently and found just some assorted chipping to grayish steel most likely but not for certain from this summers wheeling trips to Wisconsin on heavy gravel forest roads
this coating was probably the best product available known at the time to my local Toyota dealer :notsure:

Fluid film, my 2011 frame is still black (I live in Maine they like to clear the roads with salt) it does not wash off it does not dissolve it is not toxic. Leave the can inside so it stays semi warm buy the FF applicator and your all set. Check around welds they seem to rust there hit it with a wire brush krylon black paint repeat next year. Don't forget to drop your spare tire clean and spray it, it also gives you more room to spray.

I have never had luck with rubberized undercoating but this example is really bad. The best way to not have your vehicle rust out is to buy a $300 beater to drive in winter months. Or try to prevent it with some kind of oil.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXvl9nt57Kg

I sprayed my 4runner with fluid film and my 2 tacomas with woolwax. If the stuff has washed off from road spray by the time spring gets here i might try using something like this. I think a thick grease would stick really well and not come off i dont know about lanolin based stuff that fluid film and woolwax are made out of. I just dont like that oil can swell rubber and i dont want it eating my body bushings and hoses.

my rubbercoating is definitely not a ziebart type of heavy duty stuff, no suspension parts were sprayed, but i think the fuel and brake lines underneath were
i currently have a $50 beater but its Front wheel drive, not so good in deep blizzard snow
the rubber swell of FF i am still trying to investigate and do some DD
found another Canadian product that claims to NOT do that to non oil resistant rubber, testing it soon :drunk:

Lanolin (fluid film, wollwax) is not supposed to swell rubber it comes from sheep not dino-oil pumped out of the ground. I use dino oil inside my frame though there is no rubber inside of there to swell.

FF was used in the farming industry years before someone said man I'll bet that would be good on frames!

I just FF my frame 3 weeks ago and will not rinse the frame with my garden hose until they finish salting the roads this spring.
