I currently live in hawaii. There's plenty of space to get on it. Most gas it also used in the stop and go traffic along with smashing the peddle at every light to only stop at the next.

There's plenty of roads to drive 3000 miles in 6 weeks on Oahu... heck, I haven't lived there in 20 years but even then when I did there were plenty people commuting for an hour or more each way every day, and the traffic was awful.

The craziest thing to me is the idea of getting a 60 month term on a truck while you're in HS. Methinks your parents want to keep you stuck in Hawaii instead of headed to the mainland for college.

Not if you are a full time high school student, and working an after school job to pay for a truck payment and gas. And...as another poster mentioned, traffic generally creeps along. I don't buy the story.

I used to have a business near Sand Island, I am familiar with the traffic patterns (as you seem to be.)

Yeah traffic is total shit. Doubtful that a busy high school student that work too has time to drive that much but who knows.

    Anyways.

Mod your foot, enjoy your awesome truck.

Actually it's possible, if maybe he goes to a private school on one side of the island and lives in another part. Or works 20-30 miles from where he lives. We don't know his situation, but it's certainly possible.

$8 a day for travel isn't bad.... Parking alone can be that much. I would say switch cars with your parents or take a bus.....

How are you paying for gas? Are you working a job or living off birthday money??

Poor financial move for a high school student to have a $40K vehicle, your parents should have guided you better. Good luck in the adult life.

The OP kid is getting raped in this thread.

He's going to get PTSD from Tacomaworld and the 3rd gen forums. Another to add to the list....

Wow. the only trolls in this thread are people who cant walk away without being rude douches. You cant put mileage on car on an island? Are you F'ing retarded? I put 1000 miles a week on my car sometimes in highschool without ever leaving a small ass town. I just went everywhere, all the time, and without a care in the world.

To the OP - You'll lose more trading it then dealing with the gas mileage at $40/wk. What you need to do is visit sites like kbb or edumnds to price it, and do serious research, and do the math, to understand the net impact of your next moves.

The only positive thing I can say for the folks giving you a hard time is that they're right about this: you shouldn't be here asking this question. Only you can figure out whats going to make sense from here by putting in the effort to calculate the different options.

There is everything rude about failing to ignore it, and responding to it rudely.

*yes, I'm being a hypocrite with my argument.

Here is his original post. Try offering him suggestions instead of lobbing insults at him. Insulting him is the easy thing to do.

He made a mistake (a potentially large financial one). Admitted to it. He's trying to fix it by looking at all options.

Have you guys considered he may be ashamed/embarrassed to talk to his family about his second thoughts? Sure, his parents empowered him. Hell, maybe his parents are wealthy or can afford to pay for the truck in cash but opted to appease their son's wants and have him learn a lesson (which, coincidentally he is learning now).

Not everything has sinister intentions. We have ALL had grand ideas at one time or another. Did they all pan out? Hell no.

I'm not trying to stand on a soapbox, but good gravy, give the kid a shot to make mistakes, learn from them and move on. It's a tangible piece of property that has value. He will be fine.

Why not just suggest he go around the island like this:

A 1000 miles a week? How much time did you actually spend at school? Lol

Well, at that point in my life I did a lot of stupid crap, and driving around doing stupid crap was the best way (stupid in retrospect) to get away with stupid crap.

I had an 87' Celica through highschool and put somewhere around 180k on it in 6 years of ownership.

Funny sidebar story; the starter died and for almost a full 6 months I push started that SOB every time I needed to go anywhere. Man, I sure dont miss highschool.

Haha thats awesome. Sounds like a fun young adulthood.

I think most people just hate that this kid has a awesome truck at such a young age.

No doubt. He should be figuring out how to keep an 87 celica alive, or do without a car, too =]

Still no reason to cuss him out, which is where I'm coming from. Even if he really is a troll and not a typical HS student in hawaii (another reason to hate him), the only reason troll's exist is because people keep throwing food over the side of their bridges.

I will give you 17k,we split the cost for shipping it. :yay: Really though, you won´t find out what its worth here, every dealer is different, best thing you can do is call a dealership or e-mail them, some will give you a rough estimate if you are lucky, but your best bet is to let them see it. Private sell will get you more, but could also take more time. With you being a high school student, with little to no credit and just having your credit(or your parents credit) run from buying a truck, you will get hit hard again on the APR on the next car. Factor all that in. Unless you are considering a Prius, you may as well keep what you have, get a bicycle or moped and use the truck as little as possible.
