You have me second guessing now haha. Why'd you have to say that?? I'm calling the nearest ranger station tomorrow to confirm :))

Ok so according to the area map from Stanislaus NF it is indeed open as of April 15 unless they extend because snow is level is too high... This is my second wheeling season and didn't do much the first so input from experienced folks is always appreciated :))))

Unless we get some freak snow storm you should be fine. It will be cold at night for sure. Its always cold up there.

Yeah. I'll call to make sure. I know it is different with kids, but I feel pretty confident down to 20 with my gear, which is an easy 10 degrees lower than past years.

I've heard that you can find some nicely sized rocks and put them in the fire all night, then before you go to sleep take them out with shovel and bury them under your tent.

I'm trying to imagine half the guys with RTT and the other folks who sleep in their beds with hot rocks over their fuel tanks and their bed sides effectively buried. lolllll

One of my buddies did that but brought the rocks inside in a pot or something. The rtt's aren't much warmer, if at all, than a ground tent. And I don't leave my heater on all night. Just before bed so it's warm enough to get down to long johns. Then when I wake up, just turn on long enough to get back into clothes :)

    Some really cool shit
I'm a bit of a novice to off roading, and my truck is still a work in progress. Is that a combo best suited to sit out this trip? Looks a bit technical, and with no proper sliders and few skids, is that a recipe for disaster?

You'll want sliders for Slick Rock, but other than that, novice or not, you can get through it with help, and you'll learn a lot

Yeah. Sliders are required for this trail. I was new to offroading last year and the experts walked me through the trail. It was a great learning experiance.
