Unfortunately we have to back out of this. My son's been sick on and off a lot this year and can't afford to miss the days required for this trek. We'd be able to if during spring break or the Summer, but I realize that doesn't work well with others' schedules.

Alpers sold the farm a few years back. Not sure who bought it and some locals said the farm was dead.

IIRC they now truck them in from Oregon or Washington.

Makes perfect sense. Must have caught it about the ending time of the farm.

Do know that certain areas still do get stocked with bigger ones (from an inside source) talking 16+ inches

with the drought its been pretty rough. Facebook posts from Confict consistantly had fattys coming out by the intake side. Always Crowley. A year ago I saw a massive trout swimming down the Owens but it looked sick with fungus all over it.

The last 3 yrs I've started to fly fish. Love it so much its been conflicting with the Taco upgrades lol.

I do the majority of my trout slaying up north from about June-early August so by that time the weeds/moss in Crowley are just about forming.

Over the past few years Owens by the Benton crossing area had really gotten overgrown in the water with weeds and at least for me/the people I go with, hasn't been as productive as years passed. I do know that fattys still get plucked from Owens in the colder season when there are less weeds and then bigger fish come up from Crowley to spawn.

Convict has always been productive (nothing big though) for me. But I definitely know there are some huge ones there as well as in twin lakes.

I prefer usually to fish streams but have been hooked on a really productive lake for the last few years now

As for fly fishing, it's a whole new ball game compared to spin fishing or salmon eggs/artificial. But definitely a fun learning curve. I always give that rod some action when I'm not in tight spots covered in foliage

Fished Benton crossing area all 3 years and got skunked. Those weeds are ridiculous. Also fished a few miles north of Benton. Goose egg. LOL! Keeps the fire in me though. Yeah this Fly Fishing gig is no joke. I get happy hooking up with a juvie brown or brook lol. I've learned my lesson on these little creeks and rivers though. Hiking 300-400 yards up and down hunting trout at that elevation kicks my ass. Need to start running a month before the trip LOL!

Also started using streamers on a float tube. After all that hiking the last day chillin all day in a float tube was nice. :bananadead:

Float tubes are great! Until the wind starts to pick up, then have to high tail it back to shore (or let the wind push you and have a long hike back):D
