I built it thinking of the little Army men I used to set up in the sand box, and shoot with a BB gun.....

My friend just picked a VR80 up yesterday. I got to mess with it, but didn't get to shoot it. Seems pretty dope.

    Looks good!
The buffer and buffer spring won't help with light primer strikes, you need to look to the trigger/FCG. You may have spring flipped. I'd watch a video and rebuild, it's easy. Whole FCG are cheap, if you want to order another and try it after that. You should always have a spare firing pin, so might as get/try one, but if it's in spec that's not it. I have an AR15 in 7.62x39 and don't have an issue (other than with this shitty case of ammo) with light primer strikes, but I've read they're common with 7.62x39 and allegedly some opt for a slightly longer firing pin.

EDIT: oh BTW, not sure how this slipped my mind already! I just had my AR-10 out the other day, first time it in a year, as it's a gun I built for hog hunts. But, it was doing the same, but the round not going off was due the mag coming unseated, but the mag wasn't visually dropping free. I had to chamber a second round manually while watching, and only then could I see the mag being pushed down slightly, and when I grabbed it.......sure enough it came out.
Mine needs a ton of force to fully set the mag. I've built and run numerous ARs over the years, and I know you always bang mag in hard and pull to test. This particular AR (my only 10) will false positive if you don't really yank the hell out of the mag, to verify its fully seated.

    Hope this helps
Be extremely careful manually cycling, I know how much manhandling AR10s takes to chamber.

Slightly different issue, but same trigger
I had trouble with my CMC trigger not resetting...it was a very widespread/known problem. They replaced it and no issues. I have since moved over to POF triggers...much better and never a single issue.

Hello! I am always surprised at all the different forums on TW. Glad I found this one. I have an AM15 ive had for years. 5k rounds or so through at the range / hog hunting. Lots of nice setups.

Here is mine, super simple..but looking around I feel my wallet getting lighter already20200430_084738.jpg

I just built a 10.5in barrel AR in 5.56 and I'm in the market for a good (affordable) red dot. Anyone have recommendations?

I keep seeing the the Sig MSR for sale for $99, any experience with this one?

Holosun makes some good affordable red dots and I’m pretty sure the sigs are manufactured by holosun

I bought a cheaper one once and I experienced a lot of parallax error. I ended up returning it and shelling out the extra 150 for a vortex that was on sale. Has worked out for about 5 years.

I had a Vortex strikefire II a long time ago and wasn't a big fan of it. I do really like other Vortex optics though. Maybe the quality of the red dots has improved since i had the strikefire.

Thanks all, nice to be here. I'm starting the process of figuring out which trigger I'm going to replace the CMC trigger with, it's a drop in trigger, so the springs should be fine. The Aero enhanced FCG did the same thing, and I double and triple checked the springs, on the Aero unit, all was good, it did it once or twice also, but not the CMC.... it did it more. I dunno, frustrated with the long range AR10.

My Wilson Combat barrel showed up today, and I don't have the proper armory wrench, bummer. Have one coming in the mail now, maybe Saturday I'll get this thing put together.IMG_0081.jpg IMG_0082.jpg IMG_0083.jpg IMG_0084.jpg

Maybe another angle to look at might be the firing pin. It seems like if this has been an issue with multiple triggers that the firing pin may be slightly out of spec or something?

    Absolutely!
Like I mentioned before, it's a cheap and easy swap, and if it doesn't fix the issue? A firing pin is on the short list of field repair items.

Truly thank you for the reply, all of you, thank you. I had thought about filling down the firing pin to let more poke out in the BCG, Just seems like asking for trouble to me, I dunno. I have thought about an entire new BCG, but I would like to make this Oden BCG work.

    No, don't do that!
Get a spare firing pin. If that doesn't work, I'd find someone local to meet you at the range to swap BCGs and lowers. Do these separately, so you narrow where the issue is. I'm sure some gun nut would be more than happy to help. I wasn't halfway across the country, I'd do it.

I have a CMC trigger that I only ran it a bit before I reconfigured a couple rifles, but I do remember it being different- not sure how to explain.
I have cheap standard issue FCGs and run SSAE's in the ARs I shoot any kind of accuracy/distance with.

    Also!
I'm assuming you've tried different ammo right?
Sorry if you already mentioned this, but that should be your first step. For example CCI makes military primers for semis, that are harder, to prevent a slam-fire. I've used them with no issue, but it stands to reason maybe a harder primer would make your issues worse.
