    This and that...
So I was looking at the Geissele MK4 to possibly switch to instead of my MK13. Well the MK13 is now discontinued. Curious to why since it was their latest rail design to come out. Might have to hold on to it for a later build if I go with the MK4. Anyone have any experience with the MK13?

All I do here is torque 5/7lbs over and use blue lock-tite never an issue as they say anything 10 lbs over spec will damage angle of threads.

If I'm being honest, I don't stake or measure torque on the castle nut. I give the nut a good hand crank, supporting the pistol grip in the other hand, and I've yet to have one come off. Switching to fixed stocks will be the same story, or simpler (when the MK3 arrives)

PWS makes an endplate that eliminates the need to stake the castle nut

Look at the top of your Bolt where the gas key connects. Staked means the key has been peened such that the gas key bolts will not back off the bolt carrier.

Posting this in a few relevant threads to try and get a range of input:

I'm looking into my first suppressor purchase, looking for input and alternatives. First, my use cases:

Current host: 16 inch AR15, general purpose rifle for home defense, 2gun competition, plinking, rifle instruction, and limited hunting use.

Planned future hosts: bolt action 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor, 18-20 inches for hunting and precision rifle duty.

I don't plan to do mag dumps or other tomfoolery requiring a heavy-duty can. Lighter is better, shorter as well, as I'd like it to still maintain the illusion of maneuverability within the home. Hearing safe is mostly optional. I should be able to switch between hosts relatively quickly and leave the other rifle still functional.

I've been looking at the Griffin Explorr 300 as a can that should meet these needs and gives quality muzzle devices for when I can't run the can. Looking for other options that might do as well as the above or better at a similar price point, but I don't know any of the competitors in this space besides Sig or maybe Q.

Any input is appreciated, if I left anything critical out I'm open to questions.

Take a look at the Q trash panda. Personally I’d get something other than a 16” barreled upper for a HD gun. It’s gonna be a big bitch with a suppressor on it

That's the eventual goal, but for now 16 will do. The OAL of a 16 with the Explorr is just over what a standard A2 with a flash hider would be, so I'm not too worried, but it'll definitely come down in size. I'd love a 300blk for the role actually, but that's further out.

Have you looked at silencerco stuff? Any of the cans on the market will work so it really comes down to your personal preference and price point. Personally I don’t think it’s something to skimp on since it’s pretty much a lifelong purchase

Yeah I'm not considering trying to cheap out, I just want to find other lightweight qd/taper 30 cal can manufacturers really.

Yep, Micro 30 sounds like a really good option for him. I typed up a whole paragraph for him in the suppressor thread.
