It seems they have issue specifically with Q's brace.

 

ATF just hammered Fostech on the Origin-SBV all had to be returned back to the manufacture

 

That was about being a shotgun with smoothbore barrel under 16 inches. That is normally an AOW or SBS. This is about a pistol brace being designed to be shouldered rather in whatever bracing function. They're not the first one to get smacked by the ATF for these braces. Sig went to court as well.

This x1 million. It's not their job to redefine legislation. That's why the ATF is currently being sued in multiple cases over bump stocks.

 

But Q does use the SBA3 on the Sugar Weasel.. So could it be braces in general? I am hearing there could be restrictions and or reclassification's of these braces also classifying most if not all as stocks not braces.

 

I’ve got 2 complete bcm uppers, an 11.5 and 14.5, both are great and I’ve had zero issues with them. I bought stripped lowers for both and built them with the parts I wanted from the beginning so I wasn’t double buying parts.

Only the Honey Badger Pistol is named, so currently the Sugar Weasel isn't included.

100% agree and that is what I think this reclassification stuff is going to change I could be wrong about it....FATD makes firearm classifications based on the physical sample of firearms as received something has them looking....

 

Like I said, Shockwave has confirmed that their original standard for non-permanent modifications still stands and as long as threadlocker isn't used on the bolt, you're good with that brace.

This is pretty crappy and typical of the ATF, though.

 

What does one have to take into consideration when choosing an 11.5 or 14.5?

They've already recieved samples and certified the SBA3, from my understanding. They're probably trying to find anything to hang Q with.

 

Yes, But I think they reclassified it after approving it I could be wrong on that I have not looked it up just going by what I remember but I did find this

"In light of the ATF’s recent classification, each Origin-SBV now constitutes an unregistered, NFA-regulated firearm such that the continued possession is a violation of federal law. Thus, ATF is requiring that all Origin-SBV firearms be returned to FosTecH by their current owners. Accordingly, your assistance and prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. Please complete the top portion of the attached “Origin-SBV Return Form” for each Origin-SBV firearm that you have acquired and return such along with each Origin-SBV firearm in your possession."

 

Yep they sure did its in the letter by Aug 17th

 

First thing I would ask yourself is what is the purpose of your rifle going to be? For me I knew they would be suppressed so I wanted a shorter barrel. 11.5-14.5 barrel lengths still have great velocity in 5.56 and since I’m only running red dots and not lpvo’s both rifles can “out shoot” me and my eyes at distance. The 14.5 does have a pin and welded flash hider to make it the legal 16” the 11.5 is a pistol but may getting sbr’d shortly.

 

Everything about the ATF wreaks of gross incompetence and logical inconsistencies and they're trying to close a can of worms.....

Take this for example

They had a bunch of fixes to meet the ATF's requirements on their page, all of which was barrel related. Granted, i did only slim over it, but their fixes were recent.

That's what I thought.

Honestly, I think the best overall is a 14.5 pin and weld or a 16". The only reason I would stay from that is for a specific purpose like a clone build, different caliber or a paper puncher/ varmint build.

 

I would say malice rather than incompetence. They don't have to redefine the law, but they do. That is malice, IMO. They know what they're doing is wrong.
