I just built 1 of these myself. I have been wanting one for a while. I had been putting it off in favor of truck mods, but all the recent gun control talk forced my hand. Get your 50 round mags while you can. I especially like the downward ejection. My oldest son is either left handed or ambidextrous, so this will be perfect for him to learn on. The low recoil is also great for young shooters.

I like the SSA for hunting/defense/patrol guns. It's about as light as I'd like to go. Haven't tried the SSA-E but it sounds light. Would be good probably for a target gun, and work for hunting too as long as you don't get jumpy. Big thing about the SSA series is the long first stage (takeup) and the crisp break on the second stage. You know you're pulling the trigger long before it breaks. At the same time, the second stage is heavy enough that you're not going to pop off a round accidentally, even if you've preloaded it by taking up the first stage.

As someone else mentioned, if you want no pretravel and a light single stage, there are other options. Geissele's schitck is a lighter, crisper GI trigger that is combat reliable - at least with the SSA. I use it on all my builds and recommend it to others.

That sucks, but what can you do except leave the land of fruits, flakes, & nuts. It's a miracle you can even get an ar57 upper in the PRK. The Brady Bunch has been after the 5.7x28 since it was released. Because they say it was designed to be 'armor piercing'.

Worst place to get information on gun laws.

Specific guns can no longer be added to the banned list as of 2006 without specific legislative action.

There is a LOT of FUD being spread about Senator Yee's bill and gun shops are using it to drive sales.

    Are you on calguns.net?

Check it out. Calguns.net and the Calguns Foundation are two separate organizations, but the forum is frequented by Brandon, Bill, Gene, and the other principals in the Foundation and they are a good source for accurate information.

Just look out for the trolls.

Here is a link to the CA Handgun Roster. Each specific model has it's own expiration date, and it's up to the manufacturer to renew that registration.

    http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/

As for Senator Yee, SB249 was rewritten and no longer specifically is targeting the bullet button, it's targeting the conversions, such as the magnet that people are dropping into their bullet buttons, or the rings that people have been using as well.

HOWEVER, we caught wind that they are going to be doing a rewrite, that will ban all offlist lower receivers for AR's. Don't take my word for it though, it's all BS until it happens.

Even if it is allowed to expire, that doesn't "ban" the gun.
It doesn't become illegal to own, it doesn't become illegal to transfer person-to-person... it just becomes illegal for an FFL to transfer from their inventory to a civilian.

I understand how it works. I work for an FFL. We still can sell to a civilian, as long as we have a SSE barrel readily available for it,

I know about the SSE... but it was beyond the scope of the discussion.

My point was that the reference to the roster was irrelevant WRT 4x4's comment about the 5.7 being added to the banned list.
Even if it drops off the roster, it's still not banned.

As a side point, we have an FFL down here who is importing the Judge as an AOW :D

So aren't you curious how you can own a Judge in California without it being considered an SBS? ;)

Same way you can bring in a semiauto pistol grip-only 12ga.
Before coming into California it must be reconfigured as an AOW.
A VFG and no buttstock falls under that classification for NFA.

As an AOW, it no longer falls under California assault weapon, SBS, or SBR laws, because it is not a pistol, rifle, or shotgun.
The really sweet thing is that once classified and registered as an AOW, removing the VFG does not change that classification. It's not unlike the SSE where the buyer replaces the barrel and mag catch and removes the sled after taking possession.

The catch is that you still have the same hoops to jump through in setting up an NFA trust. I believe total cost is around $500 (don't go with the DIY, they generally get rejected).
Under the NFA trust, the gun technically is not owned by "you"... it is owned by the trust, and may be in possession of anyone named in the trust.
Forethought becomes important because you can not transfer the AOW... so you need to have any potential heirs (if California residents) listed.

Contact Mike at OC Armory in Laguna Hills for more details if you are interested.
