Wow, that rig carries a lot of magazines. I bet it would be hard to run with it fully loaded out!

 

Did some trigger swapping today. The Larue MBT-2S is very comparable to my Geissle SSA-E. Especially for 1/3 price. I’m a convert going forward!

I built an AR308 using a Radical 18" barrel and a cheap Radical adjustable gas block, was trying to do a cheap build, barrel cost about $120 and the adjustable gas block was $25. Sumbitch is a tackdriver with my Specwar mounted. It's my primary grocery getter when I go deer hunting. Not exactly lightweight though

 

Thanks for the advice fellas. Not sure I'm competent enough to build a lower. I shake like a dog shittin' peach pits. Well, almost.

 

lol. Having a vice and a lower receiver block (basically a piece of plastic or wood that fits in the magwell) helps. Hardest parts are the bolt release pin and the takedown pins. Everything else is typically no problem. I do remember building one one time and the damn mag release took me what felt like an hour to do (was probably only about 20min or so, still should only be about 5 min)

 

I'll have to get better pics cuz its setup rather smartly. Lol. The load is evenly distributed so Im guessing its going to be a comfortable setup when armor isn't needed.
This is my esstac next the SADF chest rig. You could add the chest rigs with the vest for extra ammo.

 

Lol i'm an idiot and built my first one lol. I started building my second lower but bent a pin and haven't got to it since. Lol. I know how to build uppers but id want help on that one.

I've built all of my large pattern ARs from 80 percent lowers and assorted sale/blem parts. Aero has (had) good prices on blem stuff. I had some issues with waaayyy overgassed carbine 308s. I only do rifle length gas now. My favorite big AR is a 24" Hbar Creedmoor. Shoots 300yd 2inch groups with 140g nosler ELDs. Weighs 15 lbs though.

 

Building an AR lower is simple, there’s nothing to it. A good punch set and a castle nut wrench is all you need.

 

A pair of needle nose pliers and some masking tape to protect the finish doesn't hurt either. But yea, super simple. Also, go ahead a get a good LPK from a well known maker and also a Larue MBT-2s trigger and install that first. Then sell off the stock FCG from the LPK for like 20-30 bucks and you got yourself a complete lower with the best bang for your buck trigger you can have.
Trust me, you will end up with this trigger eventually so just do it now.

When I installed the take down detent, I did it inside of a gallon sized freezer bag so if it went flying it would be caught in the bag. This was after the first time I tried and it launched into orbit and I spent 10 mins searching my floor for it.

 

haha yeah one of my detents luckily bounced off me and back into the tray once

 

There is nothing to building an upper. And if you do this long enough and didn't build it the way you wanted first, you will end up changing out the rail and barrel anyways so at that point you have learned to completely disassemble and reassemble a complete upper.

If you can put together a lego set, you can build and AR with minimal tools and youtube.

 

Took me a half hour to get the pin in an extended charging handle latch.
