I would recommend getting a dedicated .22lr upper if you want to avoid malfunctions

I agree and I like the CMMG kits as they run pretty well in SBR form. In fact that is what I am ordering Monday.

    I'll look into it

lowers are the registered parts that cause the paperwork hassle, right?
so I'd just get them online....
I'm not familiar with the paperwork process for conversions, if there are any. Hawaii sucks- but I'll see what I can find

    thanks guys

I don't think Hawaii has any exceptions, and uppers and the parts that constitute them are fair game. I would think whomever you ordered the conversion kit from would not let you order it if it was illegal. Most people have exceptions for stuff listed.

Agreed... the Stag upper is pretty low-end, but assuming his holosight is not a clone, he's got as much as $500 just in that.
No telling what he got conned into paying for the "silver military grade firing pin".
It's also easy to overpay for Magpul parts.

Prices have also dropped... depending on when he built it, during the 2008 "Obama scare" prices were through the roof. We had shops here in SoCal getting $350+ for a stripped lower and $1000 for Stag uppers.

Thanks, here is kind of what the upper is going to look like when I am done. But probably with a Daniel Defense Omega X 7"

Sure will be nice when manufacturers get caught up with short barrels for the 300 BLK. I'm itching to build a new upper...

I am in the process of building my own AR from the ground up. I am getting ready to buy the stock but am looking for other options other than the Mag Pul collapsible stock (carbine). Are there any other stock out there I should check out that might be a better product over the mag pul?

Completely depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to go lightweight on a budget, the Magpul MOE is a good choice. I like them for lightweight carbine builds where you'll be using polymer handguards, a pencil or m4-type barrel, etc.

If you're going to be adding a heavy rail, tac light, grip, etc., you might go for something like a Vltor Imod that will be a little more hefty for better balance. It'll have a more comfortable cheek rest too. Just watch for beard hair - the Vltors are murder on beards.

Thanks. I am kind of in between those 2. It is going to be a home defense gun and I plan to put a red dot sight on it and a tac light but those are about the only heavy things I plan to have on it.

Most important thing is not to get bogged down in analysis paralysis. If you're on a budget, the most important thing to spend your money on is ammo and training, therefore you should buy the least expensive (quality) stock that you can find. The MOE is great for that.

If you don't have training, you don't have a home defense weapon. And you sure don't have a SHTF anything, other than maybe something you can barter with.
